Knife Deburring: Science behind the lasting razor edge Review: Sharpening Obsession - Vadim Kraichuk shows his knowledge and passion in this book. It is a must read for sharpening enthusiasts. The title, taken apart from context is slightly misleading; perhaps "The Sharpening Burr, the last barrier to perfection" could have served better. Aside from all the superlatives one could laud upon this book, there are a few shortfalls. One is the reference-dependence on the author's website. Personally, I find it distracting to become invested in a theory only to be told the idea will be developed in it's full on the website. Dr Kraichuk has passed and, at this time , we are still fortunate to have access to his website. Not unlike true visionaries, Dr Kraichuk is critical of alternative methods. He is heavily invested in the Tormek sharpening approach however he also seems to have been evolving alternate systems that take the best of the Tormek process but abandon the pricy Tormek mechanism. One has to study the book and website to glean this information. This is a book that has attempted to have both excellent theory and to demonstrate theory in practice. It could benefit from a rewrite, to clean up the ESL wording and merge the website references into the written text. Still, a worthwhile addition to the sharpeners' edge. Review: Knife sharpens need this! - Excellent book! Must for knife sharpeners.

Excellent microscopic pictures of burrs along knife edges.
This book is very technical and beyond most beginner or mid skill sharpening levels. You would need to spend (I'm guessing) between $5,000 and $10,000 USD on the equipment this gentleman is using, mostly pricey Tormek grinders with diamond coated wheels and Kangaroo tail leather strops to finish. This is a great book, if nothing else just for the pictures! That said, this book's content is for that 1% to 3%

Short, dense, confusing, indispensable
Sharpening a knife is not very complicated except for deburring. This very short book has more information about deburring than any other source I have seen on paper or the Internet. Different kinds of steel react differently to various deburring methods. If you try to sharpen a wide variety of steels without understanding these differenced, you will be frustrated. However, the writing is not very clear. I advise taking notes and reading the book at least twice. It is worth the effort.

A Precise and Practical Guide to Sharpening
This book contains very precise and practical knowledge about sharpening techniques. I bought it as a complement to Knife Engineering by Larrin Thomas, but I ended up liking this one much more. The tex is mainly intended for readers who already have some experience with sharpening and wish to refine their technique through a more scientific approach. Although some concepts may seem counterintuitive at first, the author clearly explains that the real secret behind razor-like edges lies in the deburring process, which gives true meaning to the book’s title.

Tons of info on developing a razors edge.
This is not a book if are casual about sharpening knives. This book details how a professional sharpened knives with high end equipment (thousands of dollars between Tormek, grinders, wheels etc). With that being said, the information provided in this book is well worth 20$! I can only imagine the amount of time and effort Dr Kraichuk must have spent over the years studying this. Sadly he recently passed. I feel fortunate to have stumbled upon his work.
