Wonderful but not sturdy...
As a mom of 6 this is a wonderful teaching tool and entertaining for toddlers and preschoolers. My oldest is in college and these used to be so sturdy that I passed the same one down to 5 children. For number 6 I bought a new one since there are no more cartridges to keep track of. This is system 2 in alittle over a year. If it wasn’t loved so much I wouldn’t have purchased a second one. The pen stopped working after about 15 months of normal use. After talking to customer service there was no fix. So we are on to system 2. It is worth it though.

So so worth it. SO WORTH IT.
Wow this has literally been life saving. We can give it to our son after he was 1.5-2yo and he would just sit and play. I love how there isn't a screen too! It's just clicking and learning from books! When he's sick, we can keep him in his room and give him this leapstart pad and he just stays quietly, drinks his water, and plays with the leapstart! And if he gets bored, he just switched to another book. If you are on the fence, JUST GET IT.The only downside is that... The pain is not the most durable. But then again I don't think it was ever supposed to be sucked on by a 6 month old.... We are definitely replacing our broken one though and it's served us very well for the past 1.5years

Educational and easy to use - 4yr old
My son (4 yrs old) LOVES this thing. He stays up playing with it at night, which I don't even mind that much because he is learning. The books that go along with the leap start (bought separately) are very educational. They not only have learning games but also teach reading skills. The games he does more so independently where as the reading books I give some guidance. I will say, to get the whole set up (leap start device and a few books) is a little pricey, but it makes for great gift ideas in the future (buying new books). We did think about getting a tablet but I'm actually a lot happier we took this route considering he already has a lot of screen time.

Two updates needed
Overall I and — more importantly — my daughters are very happy with this product. If I can find anything wrong with it, it is that one can't simply plug it in to recharge the device. While I understand that such batteries can be expensive, for a product that is intended to follow a child's development from two–seven such an addition would be a great benefit to the parent and certainly worth the additional cost of the device.

Broke after two months of limited use
Three years in: adding a couple starsWe managed to turn it on again! Kiddo uses it on and off. Setting up new books is still hard as the book sometimes just doesn't communicate with the software. But it works!Update:After investing so much in the books, and very limited use it stopped charging the battery. We charged twice and third time it doesn't work anymore. That's it. Doesn't turn on again.Original review:This is hard to configure. You have to download a software. You download the content of the books. I did for the whole series but had to do it again every time I started a new book of the series. But I like the idea and that it's not an electronic device in kid's hands.
