Captains Courageous (DVD) (1937)

I recall that my daughter liked this movie when she was young. I bought this to show her son. He is hard to settle down in front of an old movie, especially a black and white one. But I managed to to keep him in front of this movie, and it seemed to make an impression on him. I approve of the moral lesson.

It's been over forty years since I first saw it and it is much better then most of the movies out there.

Spencer Tracy always does well as an actor, and this movie is no exception.

I had kind of avoided watching this movie over the years because I thought it would be a real tear jerker. Well, I suppose in a way I was right, but it was so incredibly written and well acted that I fell in love with this movie. I have watched it now around five times and I'm sure I will be watching it over and over again. All participants are excellent and Tracy's Academy Award well deserved, but IMO half of his award should go to Mr. Bartholomew. I just don't understand how someone that young can access the emotions he displayed in this film! I was especially taken with John Carradine's performance as "Long Jack". Don't miss this one!!

I've watched Captains Courageous many times and still enjoy it.

I had this on VHS before I bought it on DVD. Considering this movie was made in the late 30's, a good job was made on restoring it. It is a great story with great acting.

Captains Courageous is my Top Ten movie!!!

Great actors! I consider this movie a classic that everyone who loves movies should see.

I remember seeing this film when I was about 13 - (I#m 72 now) This is a really beautiful story with Spencer Tracy with Freddy Bartholomew. (Black and White, but you tend not to notice!) This is your Rudyard Kipling short story, Hollywooded up into a really good film. I promise it will make you cry, I guarantee it. You'd have to have a heart of stone not to affected by it It's quite inspirational

This is a lovely film, I saw it as a kid and cried. Watched it again after many many years and still cried,. A lovely story.... Good service from the seller I received before the early date, and a very good price. Will use this company again.

I have always liked this film and remember watching it as a child with my father.Spencer Tracey is great in quite an unusual role.A spoilt child (Freddie Bartholemew) learns the hard way about how to treat people.It's a great story, well acted- so please buy and enjoy it on a dark evening curled up by the fire with a glass of wine or two. But keep a few tissues handy- it always makes me cry!

Christmas present for relative.

This show has a lot of meaning and the stars performed well in this classic, The story is fabulous and a show that can be watched over and over again. Spencer Tracy gives a brillant performance and so does freddie Bartholomew its an action and suspensed wraped up in one. Worth buying and keeping to treasure even in black and white.
