A welcome addition
Commonly left as a free booklet at many temples, this text outlines the basic notions of cause and effect for the lay or beginning practitioner. It is a manageable text that can be read without certain initiations to more subtle doctrine. It has long been in English, but in a dated language and without commentary. This translation adds a new layer to the availability of this well known text.

easy to understand
Ancient Chinese texts are hard to interpret and explain. The translators did an excellent job, the commentaries by Xing De (Li Shi Fu) give you a deep understanding of it and the Notes section an even deeper explanation. I recommend this booklet to have in handy and re-read every so often.

Excellent translation of Daoist text
Johannes Hausen has done a great service by translating both Tai Shang's Treatise, and his master's commentary on the text. Particularly for people who want insight into the culture of China as well as the moral underpinnings of Chinese society would do well to read this text. Hausen is a skilled translator and his years of living at a Taoist temple in the Wudang Mountain chain show in his deep understanding of Chinese culture. This text is also easier for the average person to understand compared to the more difficult texts of Chuangze and Laozi.

Mandatory Reading
This work isn’t just recommended reading for anyone claiming to be a “Daoist,” it’s mandatory. The original text, commonly handed out to newcomers, is required reading for Daoist initiates in China, yet in the western world this is a little know work with very few translations available.“Daoism” in the west has often deviated to suit the wester viewer, it’s great to see foundational material like this made available to a global audience of Daoists and seekers of all kinds

A must have for every sincere cultivator
This is much more than a translation of an important classic and it's truly wonderful how deeply such a relatively short text can influence a reader. Even someone not previously familiar with this type of content as the commentary provides a lot insight into various Daoist ideas as well as more general Chinese cultural concepts.

Authentic study toward the daoist path !
Great commentaries of the gan ying pian. It provides a good insight of what it is to be on the daoist path, clearly explained by a daoist master and how this path is related to our daily actions, daily thoughts, daily speech. Thank you for this benevolent work which perpetuate tradition in its distribution.
