Murder Most Puzzling: Twenty Mysterious Cases to Solve

A beautifully illustrated and comforting bit of fun
If you’re seeking a real whodunnit that demands tedious attention to detail and complicated logistical skills, this isn’t for you. However, a sweet and gorgeously illustrated book of thoughtful premises and novice-friendly mysteries is what this book offers. Perfect for a cozy afternoon or reading with a 13+ child.Yes, the illustrations might make the solutions a bit harder to come to an independent conclusion, but the clues in the appendix help guide the reader to understand the author’s artistic method. The solutions that may seem obvious to some do not negate the fun others might enjoy searching for answers.I have thoroughly enjoyed this and will seek other works from this author. Lighthearted books like this are in short supply, and a wonderful distraction.

Perfect
As a true crime lover this book is so fun. Each case is short and the pictures are so neat. Loved it. I have passed it around to friends to enjoy as well.

Some good, some bad
I like about half of the cases in here. I end up having to use the hints in some because there is no guiding clues in the narrative, and in others the clues are glaringly obvious. The other half of the cases, with hints in the narrative and clues you have to think about, are what makes the book worth it.I think teenagers and up would be able to solve this book based on difficulty level.I wish the case hints were printed in the same section as their respective cases, so you don’t accidentally read a hint for another one while checking the back of the book for the one you’re working on. I cover the case hints and solutions with sticky notes and only reveal the one I need at that time to avoid spoilers.Overall, this book provided about a week of evening wind down activity for me during a stressful season. The purchase was worth it for that alone.

My wife loved this
I got this recently for my wife's birthday. She loves puzzles and murder/mystery stuff. I do too, but not like she does, you know exactly what kind of person I'm talking about so don't even pretend. Anyhow, The illustrations in these are just exquisite and the puzzles are a good balance of difficulty where you're never fully certain if you're right but there are enough hints from which to assemble a reasonable guess. Put another way, I've never felt overly stupid or smart If I get the answer right or wrong, which often isn't the case with puzzles in this genre.

Neat
I enjoyed the illustrations and mysteries in the book. They sometimes were like..well how was i supposed to know THAT! But still a fun afternoon of reading one or two as I hung out with my baby.

I recommend for 14 and up
I saw this book in a bookstore, and later decided to track it down. The paintings in the pages are gorgeous. The author's attention to the details in writing and pairing the paintings is amazing. Culturally, the book is British, which helps in solving some of the mysteries. It's a variety of word games, number games, logic puzzles, and discerning searches. There were some puzzles that were too difficult for me, so the Clues section in the back were very helpful. Definitely not for younger readers (in case Murder in the title didn't give that away) but high school and up can certainly handle most of these puzzles.

Some better than others
Not every mystery in this is enjoyable, but it brought lots of entertainment to my family to flip through over Christmas. I think it was fun and impressive that someone came up with each unique mystery, even if some leave you annoyed once you read the answer :)

Large book
Expected a normal sized book. This is A4 and thiner than anticipated. It's quite good though and made a nice present for a who done it fan.

Bought as a gift
Bought as a gift for my mom. She is an avid reader but found these mysteries hard to solve. However she was excited to give it a try
