Oh, Holy Night
The Christmas Story is another magnificent storytelling work by the talented and imaginative Brenda Powell Smith. It’s hard to have a favorite in a collection of books that are all so beautifully created, but the glitter wings on the angel Gabriel are the hands-down winner (the cover art is real glitter on wings printed in relief).Desert landscapes and the clothing and homes of peasant peoples can be visually boring with the relentless tans, yellows brown, gray and black colors. Smith livens up these pedestrian scenes by decorating their homes with vibrant tapestries and rugs. The regal characters (King Herod, Caesar Augustus, the Magi) are clothed in brilliant scarves and tunics. Smith’s attention to detail in filling out a scene is evident in this work. One panel features a stray cat while another has a water jug in a corner. Mary’s pregnancy progresses through the pages depicted first as a small LEGO piece bump to a ‘full-term’ LEGO piece. The Christmas Story would be a powerful one even if rendered in black-and-white colors. Smith just livens up the tale with his LEGO-enhanced images. Make a place for this story on your holiday bookshelf.

A great book for your lego-lover!
My 4 year old LOVES this book! He is a big lego fan, and just wants us to read this to him every day. A really good proportion of images to the words of the book. It's easy-to-read. The only concern I could think of for parents is that since this book provides an accurate depiction of the Christmas story from the Bible, it also tells about how King Herod ordered his soldiers to kill all babies under 2 years of age in order to try to kill Baby Jesus. A little hard to understand for a toddler, so I just kinda skip over that part when I am reading it to him, until he is old enough to understand. All in all, a great book to get your kid. Looking forward to buying his other titles for kids.

100% biblical and fantastic
My kids love the brick bible stories. Much is made of the author and his lack of faith, but rest assured that this story is completely true to the text of the Bible and the images are not offensive. Sure, they have images addressing the holy innocent slaughter but there is NO blood or gore or anything like that. It is a sad scene that is tastefully and accurately depicted, in as much as you can do that using bricks. In telling the Christmas story, I have never left this part out-it is important to the story and in my opinion kids should hear the truth-King Herod's evilness, the attempt to rid the land of Jesus in the worst of ways, fleeing into Egypt. I have a hard time imagining why these things should be hidden when telling kids the story of Christmas. It is from the Bible. So rest assured, fellow Christian parents, this is a good book.

Maybe not for super young kids
Has the story of Herod taking out all the babies 2 years old and younger. I appreciate the accuracy, but may want to be mindful on who you buy it for.

Fun & Engaging Lego Story of Jesus Birth
Brick Bible stories are super fun & engaging for my kids. I wish the large hardback one of Old Testament & New Testament was available more readily. My kids love searching for the pieces hidden in the pictures.

Blessed Swaddled Baby Jesus
Love, Love Love it. It was worth the wait. If you love Lego's this will amuse and entertain you with the creativity of setting each scene for the retelling of the Biblical Christmas Story. I think kids and adults would grasp the message and you can refer back to Biblical text if you want to encourage someone that way.

THe Nativity story in Legos ..including Herod and his evil ways, All handled well.
It was delightful for my lego-mad grandchild. I loved the fact that Mary had a "baby-bump", how clever was that??? As to the warning about the Herod edict slaughter, children of today are alas very worldly and had already heard about the New Towntragedy, so the forward in the book was nice, but probably not necessary.

So I was all excited to use this story book for our Xmas Eve family service & lo & behold, on the 2nd or 3rd page we get read Herod's killing of all the 2 yr old baby boys. So guess what sticks in everyone's mind as you continue to read??? seriously!

It's Amazing!
I bought it for my 5 & 6 year old nephews, they loved it. They found it funny recognising the Lego characters that were star wars characters. They think it is great.
