Good tone
Leans towards a warm, smooth, woodsy tone...wasn't hard to get the hang of using after finding a couple of videos online demonstrating how to use it. Was fairly easy to get different barred owl tones out of it...I'm still learning how to mimic all the different kinds of sounds a barred owl makes, so my ear is my only limit for now...using lots of barred owl videos on youtube and audio files on the web to learn from... Works and sounds really good... have tried it out in various river-bottoms and had one "conversation" with a barred owl in the area in mid-Spring, 2011...barred's don't migrate and are pretty territorial, so if you find one, you might have a good chance of "talking" to one with this... it puts out a good bit of sound - tends to hurt my ears a little when I put a *lot* of air through it, but it does a good job - I just use ear-plugs now when I get loud with it

Was hunting with a really good mouth owl caller (no device) and he could not ...
Loud raspy owl sounds, takes some practice to get the drawl at the ends of the "who cooks for you all" but sounds really well. Was hunting with a really good mouth owl caller (no device) and he could not get a turkey to respond. One call from the Mega Hoot and we were immediately answered by a thunderous gobble.

Duck sounds only! In no way sounds like an owl. But accidental fun as gift.
I gave this to my bestie so he could make owl sounds. Welp, it will sure wake up a turkey but it sounds like a pissed off drunk duck. NOT AN OWL. We will research how to use this more but the quack sound comes out so easily, I'm not sure it can be mastered to sound like an owl. It's 100% DUCK. My friend laughed hysterically and now startles people with it and giggles. He is almost 50. I will take the giggles!

Works great to get turkeys shock gobbling
While this call is a reed-type call as opposed to a traditional owl "hooter", it works very well to simulate a barred owl when using the "who, who, who-who" cadence. I got good, strong gobbles in Iowa just before and after a hunt when using it in this fashion. The price is great and it fits easily in a turkey vest.

Working on it
This is a relatively inexpensive hoot call that got great reviews so I bought it. It's much more difficult to get the hang of then made out on the other reviews. I'm working on it though. I guess it isn't bad for the money.

Good Hooter
I really like this hooter and think it is easy to use and I wish they made it out of wood to give it a deeper warmer tone but I had gobbles and barded owls banging back at it so it is going with me every time in the woods.

You are doing it wrong
You have to learn how to blow it. It creates a great sound, period, if you learn how to blow it. If it doesn't sound good, you are doing it wrong. Watch a YouTube video, proof is there.

Cup the end of the call with both hands, leaving a small gap. Blow sharply from your stomach.
Very realistic sound. Very good price.

Practice!
It's a decent owl hooter. It takes some practice but once you find the correct back pressure (chamber created with you hands at the end of the call) the right pitch can be obtained.

Not very loud
I wanted this owl call to increase the volume and range of my locator calls. I can make louder calls with my mouth than with this. No need to bring it along on turkey hunts.

Incorrect product marketing
Marketed as an Owl Hooter. It is a Turkey Gobbler.Very disappointed when I finally received this in the mail.
