The band originated in May 2004 with singer Liam Cormier and guitarist Scott Middleton, former member of Toronto metal band At Mercy Of Inspiration. The two wanted to form a project that combined their favorite parts of bands like Refused, Black Flag, Led Zeppelin and Down, among others. The line-up was rounded out with the addition of Andrew McCracken on bass and Mike Peters on drums. When the hellacious buzz about the Cancer Bats fuelling across North America, the band unleashed its highly anticipated debut album Birthing the Giant on the most evil day in history 06/06/06, on Distort Inc. Produced by award winning Canadian producer Gavin Brown the album featured bold, infectious riffage that peaked the interest of audiences and press across the globe. With critical acclaim resonating from all sides of the planet, the year following the debut release saw the Cancer Bats fly to the top of the Hardcore Punk scene. From signing licensing deals with Hassle in the UK and Shock in Australia, to winning the Favourite Hardcore/Metal Group of the Year at the 2007 Indie Awards and Best Independent Video at the 2007 MuchMusic Video Awards, the world has started to take notice of Canada s favourite flying mammals.2010 is looming large for Cancer Bats and the band is already off to a fuel throttled start. They guys recently recorded a brand new album entitled Bears, Mayors, Scrapes and Bones . The 14 track ensemble of whisky soaked riffs, focused aggression, and well placed hooks is the bands biggest and boldest work to date. The final track of the album is a blistering rendition of the Beastie Boy s Sabotage . The band filmed a raucous and hilarious homage to the 3 emcees from NYC, which is the perfect complement to the hard hitting track. While the Sabotage video is guaranteed to act as an open invitation to many a new fan across the globe it is the Cancer Bats trademark hybrid sound of punk infused stoner metal that will hook them in for life. Bears, Mayors, Scraps and Bones is set to pounce the US through Good Fight Music on Tuesday April 13th. Review: Super Good! - It has taken a long time for me to write a review on this album because there is nothing but good thing to say. The whole CD is amazing from start to finish. There are tunes that make you want to bang your head and other that will make you mosh. I own all the Cancer Bats CD's and they have never let me down and this is no acceptation. Pour some syrup and mosh.
The name Cancer Bats sparks this flame that you never knew was in you this perverseness that makes you want to growl and thrash, and that's only the name. Cancer Bats newest third album doesn't stray too far from their albums "Birthing The Giant" and sophomore "Hail Destroyer". The distinct sound of the Cancer Bats classified as southern hardcore metal, and that's a genre all on its own. Which can be quite difficult to improve in the situation of the Cancer Bats. Bears, Mayors, Scraps, & Bones isn't some type of experimental album or melancholy album it's just as comparable too their first two albums. Make no mistake that the new album would exhibit halfheartedness or weakness in the Cancer Bat it still links together the thrashing drums as if eagles were making love to their deaths, with guitar rifts ripping and tearing like a pack of wolves, and vocals between screaming and yelling bears would grow fearful. Overall, Cancer Bats created another furious and raging album that once defined them but in no way do they try too appeal or really make their songs differentiate from on another but with such fame and experience I say this album isn't going to change the world. Definitely they'll get a few people moshing around it.

Superb, high-energy, loud rock! I bought this album (my first Cancer Bats album) after hearing a track on the Bruce Dickinson Friday Rock Show, and I'm really pleased with it. It's music that you need energy just to listen to - then you reap the rewards as it blows you away...
