HeadPod 4 Amplifier Accessory

I perform a solo acoustic act, singing and accompanied by a hybrid flatpick, fingerstyle guitar style at Gallagher's Irish Pub located in the historic 1877 Eagle House in Eureka, California. I need to hear the bass, treble and melodic phrasings as well as my vocals clearly. The Aphex amplifier used in conjunction with high end Westone earbuds accomplishes this extremely well. I can hear all of the ranges clearly and distinctly, without the worry of feedback from bulky monitor speakers.

I use it on the studio with a focusrite saffire pro on the spdif out and it sounds AMAZING. On the road with Sounddevices 744 or anymtascam recorder via line out souns great as well. Construction is rugged, all metal. Nothing flimsy. Comes with various connectorsmfor uk usa or europe. I would buy it again!

I'm totally pleased with the Aphex Headpod 4 amplifier. I use it exclusively with two headphone sets and my Korg MicroArranger music keyboard. One headphone is Audio-Technica M50 (38 ohm); the other is BeyerDynamic 880 Pro (250 ohm). Reason I bought the Aphex Headpod was to power the 250 ohm Beyerdynamic headphones. The Aphex amp produces noticeably clean audio, although less volume than I expected. Equivalent volume as what my Korg keyboard puts out with 38 Ohm headphone. Totally adequate and high quality audio, which is why I'm pleased with Aphex Headpod, but unable to give 5 star rating, perhaps unfairly, due to my expectations of loads of volume from the amp. Still, the Aphex ... I recommend without reservation.

Digital in is a plus. Super clean stereo sound. The other benefit of the digital in is that most sound guys never use up all of their digital outs on their boards so, unlike XLR, they will almost always be able to accommodate a digital headphone mix!

Our laboratory is doing auditory research with subjects wearing headphones and needed an amplifier with very low distortion. Indeed, the Headpod 4 has the lowest distortion of ANY amplifier I could find (priced under $2,000).Besides using it with several models of Sennheiser headphones in a sound booth, the lab is also doing research with subjects inside an fMRI brain scanner (looking at brain activity while people hear various sounds). Inside the noisy MRI machine, special non-magnetic earphones are used that require a lot of power. The manufacturer recommended using a small audio power amplifier, but that would cause too much distortion. The Headpod 4 works perfectly; it delivers plenty of power with very low distortion!The overall quality is excellent. The power supply is better than average and comes with four different adaptor plugs for various international standards. Even the box is nice; printed on an inside flap is the Aphex mascot robot. Adorable!
