one of my favorite haunted house movies
It's more than house haunted, really, but potato/potato, eh? It's an excellent movie from start to finish. I first watched it many years ago on that mail-order rental DVD service that shall remain unnamed, back when they actually rented movies, and I liked the movie so much that I bought a copy the next day. Years later, I lost the DVD in a move. So I finally bought another copy. -- I can't recommend "R-Point" highly enough. 10/10.

GREAT film for horror affectionados!
I first bought this film some years ago, and it turned out to be among my BEST movie purchases ever! I've been a horror genre affectionado for about 50 years and few films truly scare me anymore. This one DID! And it scared me each time I watched it until someone pilfered it a few years ago. I was THRILLED to find it on Amazon! It scared me again when I watched it, again, the day it arrived!

great performances
This was well acted and very much time-period oriented. Many don't realize that South Korea sent troops to Vietnam. A ROK platoon has been missing for some time but a radio transmission is received from them. Another platoon is sent to rescue them. Spoiler alert: it is a ghostly trap. R-Point is a cursed land where the violent are doomed and since violence is pretty part of a soldier's job, there is no mercy. The ghosts take them one by one by messing with their heads. I won't spoil the ending. Unfortunately, the movie does follow the basics for most movies of this genre so some things meant to be a surprise or mystery were fairly obvious. Nevertheless, the characters were well portrayed, every actor did a terrific job and the story was engaging.

This Korean ghost story from the time Korea was our Ally in Vietnam and Cambodia should be required viewing by anyone in the stae department assigned to South Korea

"Soo-Yung! Wait for me!"
What with the explosion of soul-less American remakes of Asian films beginning to die out, now would be a good time to catch the few films which are still untouched by the blockbuster treatment. It is with a sad sigh that this film will probably be remade into a glossy American, high budget affair with lots of attractive Americans posing in designer stubble. And this will be a real shame, as one thing that Eastern horror films stands head and shoulders above their American copies is their use of space and tension over gore and special effects.Where Asian horror films succeed is their use of waiting. Like the old adage that the journey is better than the destination, most of the fear lies in waiting for the actual moment, rather than the moment itself. The human mind and its imagination is a powerful tool, and the makers of R-Point clearly understand this. Instead of trying to scare the viewer by showing whatever it maybe that is doing the scaring, the film piles on the atmosphere by keeping it hidden, using location and the viewers own imagination to make it uncomfortable to watch. Visual scenes of horror are few and far between, but where the film works is in its apprehension, the tension that builds as clues are dropped as too what maybe going on.Another victory is scored through the script, as in not the spoken dialogue, but the way in which completely innocent events which happened previously are shown later to be excatly the opposite. This is nothing new in film making, but placed in such a forboding enviroment it starts to play tricks on the mind, and the thoughts that accompany film watching are scrambled and eventually you start to become as confused and bewildered as the protagonists in the film.If you are used horror being about any of the following: oceans of blood, knives, prom queen virgins, homicidal dolls, dumb American jocks, stupid police, spooky sanitriums, quiet suburban streets, daft hysteria, and having everything explained so you know what is going on, then you should look elsewhere. If, however, you are clever enough to appreciate the creativity and imagination that goes into creating a unique piece of true psychological horror, then watch this quickly before America bumbles in and takes away everything that makes it special.NB: A couple of people have mocked the silliness of the script, but bear in mind it is made in Korea and so reflects the way Koreans speak, not the way English speak. ( some people obviously expect everything to revolve around them ) This is no way detracts from the film itself.

No Spoilers, Watch the film
Do not watch this film with a western expectation let alone any expectation.Too many critical reviews(ers) are expecting too much from a Korean film that will always be different from the general western genre of horror films. This film starts out fairly creepy and maintains suspense and despair right up to the end, there isn't a lot of blood or gore but there is a lot of slow suspense and build up of the overall story.Only idiots are going to complain about the film not having this or that which obviously doesn't appeal to their expectations. If you are a fan of creepy horror then watch this, if you are not a fan and don't watch Japanese/Korean horror, then don't watch this and then complain.Film get five straight stars from me.
