Does not mar the painted surface of the vehicle
I have 2 of them and use them to put flags out on the irregular shaped hood of my motor home on holidays. I added a felt backing to the magnetic base plate just to be safe, but they hold well in any position you want them and they don't scratch the paint of the RV.
