A Teen's Fantasy?
Although the story revealed some interesting notes on Botticelli's friendship with Simonetta, it did not seem realistic that most notable men of the town were controlled by the whims of a teenager despite her ethereal beauty. The town even accepted the love affair between a young married woman from an important family (Vespucci) to the most important family (Medici) in the area. More explanation of the accepted nuances of romance of the times need to be inserted or it makes it seem like idylls of a teenage fantasy.

One Star
Did not like the writing. A good story deserves better use of language.

Lyrically Written
This is a beautifully written book about the woman revered by all of Florence for her beauty. The 15th century was a time of intrigue and romance, with the Medicis figuring prominently in the story. Simonetta caught Botticelli's eye and she became his favorite subject. Her beauty endures, as she rises from the sea in his famous "Birth of Venus."

Simonetta - a must read.
Congratulations, Fay Picardi! This is a wonderful book. The writing is beautiful and perfectly crafted. The imaginary biography of Simonetta is amazing; she really comes to life. This is one of the few books I intend to read over and over again. Also, I have already given it to a special person, and will be getting more for gifts this Christmas.

This is such beautifully written, wonderfully researched book
This is such beautifully written, wonderfully researched book. I loved it from beginning to end. The court gossip, the fashion of the day the glimpse into a world of beauty and elegance that can only be imagined but yet a love story about a very young girl. I did not know anything about the woman in the famous Botticelli painting, Venus rising from the sea but I am so glad Ms. Picardi brought her to life for us.

Historical fiction is my favorite genre, but this book is even more
Historical fiction is my favorite genre, but this book is even more. The research is impeccable and the reader feels a part of the daily life of Renaissance Florence. The structure goes beyond a simple narrative and borders on true literature. Simonetta the person and Simonetta the book are definitely worth getting to know. I've ordered plenty for my reading friends for Christmas!

for art lovers and others
it seems as if the author has done her homework, what a wonderful way to learn more about the history behind the face of the painting we all know so well. I enjoyed the read and will now keep my "players" sorted out, thanks for the historical fiction.
