Unmasked: Inside Antifa's Radical Plan to Destroy Democracy

A Frightening Documentary of the Violence and Brutality of Antifa
Although this book was extremely well-written (Ngo is a journalist), I had great difficulty reading it. I would read a few pages and then become so disturbed that I had to put the book down. It is the true story of Antifa’s brutal beating and sometimes murder of anyone who did not profess support of its objectives. Ngo, himself, was stalked and beaten by the group because he attended and filmed and posted the protests and the destruction that Antifa was inflicting upon counter-protestors or just innocent bystanders. We stand aghast, and rightly so, at the riot which occurred at the Capital on January 6, 2021 - Five people killed and $30 million in damage, and yet the press, and consequently society in general, says almost nothing regarding the 2 dozen people killed and the $2 billion in damage that occurred during the Black Lives Matter – Antifa protests. Antifa claims that it is fighting Fascism, but let’s look at the definition of Fascism. It is a form of government that is characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition and strong regimentation of society and of the economy. Nazism is a form of fascism in that it also has a disdain for liberal democracy and the parliamentary system, however, unlike the Fascism of Mussolini, it also supports a fervent antisemitism and extreme racism. Nazism is an abbreviation for the National Socialism party and yes it did begin as a party advocating socialism. Hitler found it initially useful to affiliate himself with this ideology but later abandoned it. I describe this because many of the actions of Antifa mirror the actions of the Nazi brownshirts or Mussolini’s blackshirts – use of violence to impose their beliefs upon the whole of society, total suppression of any opinions opposing their beliefs, a hatred for democracy.I know that democracy, for our species, is an extremely unnatural form of government. It was only through extraordinary circumstances that it thrived in America and in so doing, more people knew a greater level of prosperity and freedom than in any other country at any time in history. Was it a society totally free of injustices? Of course not, but compare its shortcomings to any other country that has existed and you will see that the injustices we inflicted were far less than any other civilization. Like the author, Andy Ngo, I greatly fear this country that I love is dying. Those extraordinary circumstances that produced our democracy are gone and add to it the fact that all countries that reach a high level of prosperity produce a weakened citizenry incapable of enduring hardship, easily led by the spin of demagogues, easily moved by emotion rather than rationality.Andy Ngo was born in Portland, Oregon. His parents were from Vietnam. After the fall of Saigon they were placed into forced labor and reeducation camps by the communist government. In 1978 they fled to the United States as part of the Vietnamese boat people. Because of this, Ngo is particularly grateful to the freedoms and opportunities that the United States gave to his family and to him. The last five pages of the book, were for me, perhaps even more painful than the remainder of the book. Ngo summarizes Antifa’s threats to democracy and freedom and describes the resulting world. In the author’s own words. “For those who are vulnerable, antifa is more than appealing. It promises community, protection, and purpose. It is organized like a zealous religious movement through the constant feeding of ideology and propaganda. They believe a communist-anarchist world utopia is possible. There would be no borders, police, prisons, racism, or fascism. All material needs would be met through community mutual aid, not through working in an exploitative capitalist system. But the world antifa envisions is a literal ‘utopia.’ Translated from the original Greek, ‘utopia’ means ‘no place.’ No society can function as antifa envisions. Their small-scale experiments at creating separatist anarcho-communist communes, have ended in disaster and death. Even when their anti-fascist ideology was instituted at the state level (e.g., in the former East Germany), the result was the creation of a sprawling spy apparatus that monitored the public and private thought of citizens for wrongthink.” …“For those who are drawn to their siren calls of ‘anti-racism,’ ‘anti-fascism’ and ‘equity,’ look to where their ideas have been put into practice. No one inherits a utopia or civilization. They inherit ash, blood, and feces-strained rubble.”

A scary book which will shock you
This book is excellent! I couldn't put it down when I read it. The book did shock me. The book clearly shows a new existential threat exists to our democracy. It is the old threat of communism remarketed to fit today. This threat is something which has killed over 100 million people world wide in the 20th century. Everyone thought it went away in 1989. No, it has crawled from the pits of hell to fill our streets today. This threat is antifa as it is called today. Through most of the 20th century this plague was called communism. It destroyed nations and millions of lives. Somehow people today have been fooled and they have picked up the banner to fight for communism in our streets and over social media. Then they used nice terms like comrade to make people feel good. Today they hide their agenda of destroying America and western civilization under terms like justice and racism so people are fooled. This group don't care about those things. They only care about building a communist heaven of theirs on earth. What is even scarier is how people have stuck their head in the sand to ignore this threat to our nation. The book does a great job of describing antifa. The book provides a summary of events last summer when antifa was burning down city after city. The book shows the link between this group and the communists of Germany in the 20s and 30s. The author showed that their work in the Germany weakened the nation so much it created an opportunity for Hitler. Andy Ngo shows here today how antifa uses the same techniques the communists used then in Germany and in other nations. He shows how they use intimidation and violence to scare opposition. Then and now most people were to stuck in their ways to notice the danger from this group. I fear that will be the case today unless people start to notice.

An extremely important book
One of the more depressing things of the past few years has been the rise of Antifa as a recognized and (in some repugnant circles) reputable group. And yes, despite the weak rhetorical gymnastics of their supporters, it is a group, if not in unity personally, certain in unity in terms of philosophy, tactics, and ability to organize with each other. That they are more akin to decentralized Islamic jihadi cells than a centralized cult does not change that.Once in a while someone comes along for whom we as a society should be truly grateful. Andy Ngo is one such person. This guy has got guts. Despite the violence inflicted upon him, the endless harassments, intimidation, and doxxing of him and his family, this guy went into the belly of the beast to provide us a true account of what Antifa is, what we face when we face them down, and the consequences of not doing so. In a scary world, Antifa stands out.Despite the anti-intellectual argument that Antifa just means anti-fascist because, gosh darn it, it is right there in its name, Ngo goes to the historical roots of Antifa in pre-WWII Germany. The ‘anti-fascists’ of that time were communists, not exactly an improvement given that ideology’s track record of mass murder. Modern Antifa is anti-fascist in the same sense. They are not interested in fighting fascism for its own sake but rather in tearing down the culture, history and norms of Western Liberalism (in the traditional sense of that word) and replace it with some modern-day version of that same totalitarian communist ideology. That explains why Antifa define ‘fascist’ so broadly as to encompass essentially anything to the right of Karl Marx. That Antifa and its supporters superficially claim that it is merely ‘anti-fascist’ does not change what it is.As Ngo points out, Antifa is not merely or even mostly about the use of violence. They strategize. They know how to take a peaceful assembly and ignite it, as was the case in Minneapolis after George Floyd’s death. Antifa saw the opportunity to advance its own goals of destroying the institutions of our society and put its riot strategy in motion by just lighting the match at the right time and place. Of course, it is not merely that Minneapolis burned but, as Ngo rightly tells us, it laid out a new standard: anytime a black was killed by a white cop, no matter the circumstances, cities would go up in flame. By introducing that standard, Antifa advances its agenda even further not through active violence itself, but the creation of cultural norms weakening the foundations of society.Easily the most depressing thing about this book is its description of how large sections of the mainstream press, traditional liberals, academics, and Democratic politicians have supported, encouraged, excused, downplayed, or whitewashed Antifa, its goals and its tactics. Antifa is almost like a mirror image of Donald Trump, who did not cause but rather revealed the depths to which some institutions in our society have sunk, how deep the swamp really is. The media and its overt rejection of objective reporting of his presidency, the intelligence agencies, academia, the Democratic Party, were all revealed to be further gone than many had thought. Antifa performs a similar function but in the opposite direction, with these same institutions and factions providing it open support. We do, after all, live in a country in which the current president said in a presidential debate that Antifa does not really exist, that it is more of an idea. Indeed, even the reaction to this recently published book has been revealing, such as the banjo player for Mumford and Sons leaving the band after praising it and receiving pushback from Antifa apologists. This book is filled with valuable information. I urge people to read it not merely to see what we face when we face Antifa, but what the Left in this country has become without our even noticing it. This is a very important book.

So far, a very good book, but bad shipping (tres bon livre mais mauvais colis)
Loving the book so far, so I would definitely recommend the book. It's a very interesting read and shows you another side to the Antifa group the media do not dare talk about. However, disappointed with the Amazon shipping. The book was in a box that was way too big, therefore, the book was already damaged before I even opened it. I paid for a new book but it already looks second-hand before I even started reading. You would expect better from a company of this size.

Outstanding, brave,, essential reading for thinking people everywhere.
An excellent expose of a phenomenon which many on the left would rather not have been written and not read. A first hand, eye witness account of activity including violence, aggression and intimidation against anyone who does not support the Antifa cause. The Antifa cause is not “anti-fascist” as they hope gullible bystanders assume, it is closer to being an anti-free speech fascist organisation, which is now what antifa stands for in my view. To read the while book and peruse the huge number of notes and sources is to gain a clearer understanding of what truly liberal western society (not just US) stands to lose by allowing antifa to flourish. The fact there is no serious negative comment on the book says it presents an unarguable case. It destroys the foolish claim “antifa is just an idea” with scholarly forensic precision. Outstanding.
