Love Your Creative Space: A Visual Guide to Creating an Inspiring & Organized Studio Without Breaking the Bank

BEST CRAFT AND ORGANIZATION EVER!
This (former Military Wife) is right on target with her suggestions because it is backed by learned knowledge. I know this because I also am a Military Wife. We moved and had to learn. I recommed this as the number one organizing and tossing out what has become "stuff without realizing it." She also knows the secret of what a small break one needs to take once in awhile to keep yourself going and interested in the job. This is a MUST BOOK for crafters to also be aware of what you buy because you CAN remain organized! Yes, you can! Keep organized you'll have more fun. Remain mindful of what you have. I hear peoople say "bring a thing in toss a thing out". That doesn't work for me. Being aware of what you have, using it up and going to your nest interest. That's the ticket.

Lots of ideas for creative storage and spaces!!
The author gave a virtual talk at our online guild meeting. There's a lot of new information and ideas for organizing and creating a workable creative room. One item discussed is planning work stations and the Circle of Reach. Ideas are given for storage of various items related to your craft. How to make storage portable or movable, especially if you move a lot. There's pictures of some studios and possible storage ideas. I like the table of contents and how you do not need to read page by page. You can turn to the area you need the most.

Rating this book on my personal needs
This book is great for large sewing rooms, but I have a "small" space so I couldn't use most of this info. & I returned "Love your creative space" book.

A Most Useful & Inspiring Book
I have many books and articles about designing and organizing sewing/quilting/craft areas. This book is the most helpful of all of them. It contains many great ideas for all kinds of budgets. And all sizes of rooms/areas. This author even suggests how to compensate for limited space based on her own experience. As a military wife she once had to sew in a closet in military housing. This is a useful book no matter what size area or room you have to work in, and no matter what your budget may be.

Well written and helpful.
The book is well organized, the writing style engaging and there are plenty of good photos. Seeing the chapter and page number at the top of every right-hand page was appreciated. The section featuring well-known sewists was an extra treat. Naming the sources and brands will continue to be very helpful.

A list of products to buy
“...Creative Space: A Visual Guide to Creating an...Organized Studio...” goes off the rails early on. It begins with directions for culling and disposing much of your stash. The proposed disposal of materials seems to be independent of your available space or characteristics of your work, your budget, or how you create. Next there are discussions of storage for individual supplies (threads, buttons, beads, scissors, etc) or tools and the brand-name containers for storing them. Once past storage for individual items, there are brand-names for shelving or cubes or colorful boxes. And brand names for flooring surfaces. Lighting, tables, and a work chair are mentioned. By “mentioned” I mean their existence is acknowledged but pro and cons of types, appropriate dimensions, ergonomics, or placement in relation to each other are skimmed over. There are the promised photos of some studios but no dimensions of spaces nor any floor plans nor tips on setting budget priorities. The author is a quilter. She does try to expand the book to cover other crafts. However discussions of these are mostly limited to name-brand containers for a few supplies. Given the above limitations and the cost of “name-brands”, I cannot recommend this book. Moreover, I consider the lack of in-depth discussion of ergonomics and lighting a justification for recommending that serious artisans/crafters not buy this book.

If you’re not a quilter, don’t bother with this
I was so disappointed to receive what was described as a creative space, organized studio guidebook and find that it deals almost exclusively with studios and storage spaces for quilters. I’m sorry, but quilting is the last thing I think of when I see “craft workshop” or “creative studio design.”
