The One Paperback – June 25, 2010

I just got done with this book and I will say that it is a "must" read. I loved every moment. I would tell you my favorite parts in the book but that would be giving away some of the story. The author really knows how to touch your heart and make you feel every moment as it's happening. I really do like Nick. Let's just say it takes him a while like everyone else in the world to find the right guy. I really enjoyed this book and I hope there is a part 2 to it because I really want to find out what happens next. I really hope everyone gives this beautiful book a chance because the author is a great writer and I hope he has a lot more books coming our way.

Based on three five-star reviews, I figured this one was worth a shot, but was quite disappointed. I almost quit reading about two-thirds of the way through, because at that point I was still waiting for the "mystery" part to show up. Well it finally did, but certainly wasn't worth wading through all of the repetitive and tedious stuff that came before.

This book was very well written. I read this book in 3 days. Kevin Winters knows how to write an intriguing story that keeps you from putting it down, a real page turner. The writing makes you fell like you are standing and watching the story unfold before your eyes.Every page keeps you wanting to know more about all the characters revolving around Nick Ward and friends. Just when you think you have the mystery figured, the author takes you in another direction which sends you searching again. The characters in "The One" remind you of someone you know, or have known and can relate to.Give this book a chance and I am sure you will enjoy the ride as much as I did.

My buying guide has always been the description on the back cover, which has served me well and this book is no exception. The author portrays the gentle, caring side of many members of the gay community, but doesn't leave out those less desirable. Nick's warmth and his love of friends are appealing and the playful nature of his online chats is not unlike many I've experienced. The characters are realistic and the story points out the pros and cons of online chats. When Nick meets Brent by accident, it's love-at-first-sight, and anyone of any age who has had this experience will relate to Nick's young-at-heart feelings. The Spanish character Pedro with his endearing dialect is the true star of the story although perhaps unintended by the author, but he's my favorite character! The mystery portion is engaging; the police investigation is riveting and had me turning the pages in anticipation. All of this and the easy flow of the author's writing resulted in a very satisfactory read. I encourage and anticipate the author's next novel!

Loved it! Loved it! Loved it!! Very cool book. It really kept me guessing who did it right up to the end, and the mystery is solved, but with a really interesting end that makes me hope there will be a sequel. I love to read mysteries, and although this author is new to me, I think his writing is great. Kevin's book was a good read. Definitely recommended.
