I really am new to wood carving, but not wood art. I have done some woodwork with dremel and woodburning. My grandfather who has passed on was a wonderful craftsman and inspired me! My dad also loves wood work. I purchased this set to try my hand at whittling and carving. Value for the money is excellent. For a beginner you have an excellent starter set. Handles are comfortable. Easy to use, you need to take it slow and be safe as the blades are plenty sharp to do damage. The blades seem durable, but I haven’t used them long enough to know. I included a photo of my first solo project made with this set, an Otter. I hope to continue to improve. I appreciate the thoughtfulness of the included holder as a place to safely and securely store the blades when not in use.

Edit:So originally i had given these knives a 3 star. Not because of quality or performance but because i never got to test them as they were stolen thanks to the amazon delivery person leaving them out for everyone to see. In no way was this Beavercraft's fault what so ever. So what does beavercraft do?? They reach out and ask for my info and send me a new set!!! That is freaking crazy and awesome.. That is top notch customer service.The knives came well packaged and they look amazing. The grip is really comfortable and most importantly, the blades are super sharp so be careful!! Overall these are really great quality and if you're thinking about getting them then just do it!! You won't be disappointed.Original Post:Im sure they work great. Good product and easy to use. I like the strong blades and nice leather wrap.

I bought these for a traveling set of knives. They arrived well packaged. The leather case is very nice. the set came reasonably sharp. I put each one on a 2000 grit stone and then stropped them to razor sharp. The spine on these knives are a little thick and they do not really have any flex when carving which I prefer. The stropping compound that came with the kit is quality compound. I have large hands and the handles fit me well. They do not have any type of lacquer or varnish on them which I like. For the price, this is a great carving set for rookies and good traveling set for seasoned carvers. I also highly recommend the Beavercraft adze if you make bowls and do large carvings.

The blades were sharp from the get go, seem to hold an edge well and feel good in my hand.

This carving set is excellent and is at a good price point.I am a beginner, and the more experienced carvers saw my set and commended me on my choice.My only complaint is that the handles are a little large for my hands, but I did not take stars off for that because it's not Beaver Craft's fault that I am a small person with little hands. I am just mentioning this because I never took that feature into consideration, and it is something to think about when purchasing a carving knife.The case is exquisite and makes this set so portable. It stores the tools safely from place to place.

Great set for the price!

I purchase this set of knives prior to a wood carving class that I took with my girlfriend. She also got a comparable set from Flexcut, which is the leading brand. That set, with three very similar knives, was a little bit cheaper, but without the strop, compound, or tool case. I think I was (wrongly!) swayed by these things.The blades are noticeably less functional than the Flexcut ones I have used, but not terrible. They're just fine, but a little bit worse. The handles on the other hand and awful. They are a less ergonomic shape, and very poorly finished. After 3 hours of carving with these knives, I had to stop, as the skin on my hands was getting destroyed. The next day, I carved with the Flexcut set for another 3 hours or so, and my hands felt great.Long story short, stick with the big name!
