No B.S.! Here's how to grow your revenue with social media.
The media could not be loaded. Hi I’m Douglas Burdett, host of The Marketing Book Podcast and I’d like to tell you about the “No B.S. Guide to Direct Response Social Media Marketing: The Ultimate No Holds Barred Guide to Producing Measurable, Monetizable Results with Social Media Marketing” by Dan Kennedy and Kim Walsh-Phillips.My favorite part of the book, which I think captures the spirit of this excellent book, is where Kim Walsh-Phillips confesses that she is not the best person to watch football with. It’s not because she talks through the game (she doesn’t) or because she doesn’t bring snacks to the party (she does). It’s because she can’t stop yelling at the TV during the commercial breaks about the ridiculous amount of money wasted on advertising with no calls to action or any level of measurement. While the title of this book has the words “social media” in it, it is not about unicorns and rainbows, nor does it contain expressions like “engage in the conversation” or “love your followers.”This book is about growing your business with social media. Specifically, generating lots of qualified leads that turn into customers and promoters of your company. It walks you through how to generate leads on social media by creating valuable, irresistible content that focuses on the needs of your ideal prospects instead of your product or service. It also shows you how to create an army of raving fans who will enthusiastically promote you to their social networks. And it covers the role of paid media and how to leverage social media advertising to drive sales, including which networks to advertise on and which ones to avoid. As the title of the book implies, this book is no BS – just results! And to listen to an interview with Kim Walsh-Phillips about the “No B.S. Good But Not Great
I've been a fan of Dan Kennedy for many years. I first heard Dan Kennedy speak with Zig Ziglar at a Peter Lowe seminar in (I think) 1994. I bought "Magnetic Marketing" (and some other cassette based products) as a direct result of hearing Dan speak. I even met Dan after the seminar. So I've been on "Planet Dan" (as he calls it) for over 20 years. In addition to other products of Dan's that I own, I've bought a number of his "No B.S" books. Those books typically deliver great, actionable information. I also like the social media column Kim Walsh-Phillips occasionally writes for the GKIC "No B.S." newsletter. So naturally, when I began to see some discussion about this book I thought it would be a good one to add to my arsenal. To be fair, I haven't yet finished the book (I'm on page 272). And there are some good chapters in the book. Ari Galper's guest chapter is a good one. And Kim's chapter on testing is also a good one. But for me, by and large, I don't think this book delivers on its promise (at least so far). This book seems to be long on "what to do" but somewhat short on "how to do it." That was a surprise for me because like I said, I typically find most of Dan's "No B.S" books to be chock full of very actionable information. Can you get useful information from this book? Yes. Just don't expect it to lead you by the hand.Rick

Brilliant DR Marketing meets Social Media: No-BS Success
One of Dan's best yet, he and Kim share profoundly useful DR tactics for leveraging social media the right way. Thanks to both of you... building linkage between the two like this -- in a common-sense, results driven collection of actionable strategies is very helpful.Virtually everything else out there on social media marketing is bs fluff, I've long awaited Dan's no-nonsense take on it.Thankfully, Dan & Kim show the most intelligent, smart use of social media marketing. Their book is specific, insightful and very valuable from both strategic and tactical standpoints; I'll implement what I'm learning and continue to grow our company. One of the best business books of the year. Because it clears up misconceptions about social media usage by entrepreneurs and provides a more realistic, sales/results-driven strategy that's actually valuable and useful. Thanks, Dan -- I needed guidance in this unfamiliar territory, and you and Kim came through. Your clarity is appreciated, and will help our continued biz growth. Buy this book now, it's useful. To massive profits,Ken Calhounp.s. Dan, your business books are the best marketing resource in the world, I've done well in sales due largely to implementing what I've learned from you this past 15+ years. A profound thank-you. Whenever a new resource from Dan comes out, I "put everything on hold" til I've read/watched it. I re-read Dan's books regularly, and implement. What you teach works, and is "correct thinking" for success.

The right amount of information you need to know about Social Media and your biz
Great information and value for any business that needs to know more about Social Media. You'll be able to turn the ideas from this book into money for your business. Despite the constant up-selling that is written into the book, it's well worth it.
