The Kick Inside

A Romantic Kate CD Which You Probably Should Own
If you're reading this review, I assume you fall into one of three categories:1) You already own most of Kate Bush's CDs and are just checking out what others think;2) You've purchased some of her "newer" stuff like Hounds of Love and are thinking about back-filling your Kate collection;3) Somehow you've drifted through the Universe without discovering Kate Bush and realize you need to correct this oversight quickly and quietly. So, in response to 1), let me say: This is an uneven CD, but the good parts are so good, the disk rates five stars. You have romantic classics like "The Man with the Child in his Eyes" and "Wuthering Heights" and pure sophmoric feminine romanticism in "Feel It" and "Oh to be in Love" which still has the power to touch us all through Kate's direct, emotive, and clearly heart-felt delivery. I love her sense of Brit humor, which comes across all too knowingly in "Them Heavy People".In response to 2): This isn't hard rock with a cutting edge like Hounds of Love and doesn't have the alternative bent of The Dreaming either. When she tries to inject harder rock, like in "James and the Cold Gun" it sounds like over-reaching. Most of the tracks on this CD fall into the melodic / romantic category, which is Kate's sweet spot.In Conclusion: If you like the romantic Kate Bush, you should own this CD. If you like the hard rocking Kate, you probably won't like this CD. If you're just discovering Kate, you should also own this CD because it's a good introduction to some of her best efforts...and you'll better appreciate her later works.

Excellent launch of the career of a SuperStar
Wuthering Heights blew my mind as a teenager. My best friend bought the album (The Kick Inside) and I loved all the songs. Decades passed before I decided I now need to own my own copy of the album. Since I received the CD from Amazon, I've listened to the album several times in my car. Still love the music and I'm very happy with my purchase.

Moving Stranger
Does it really matter? This is Kate Bush, lush and lovely in all her analog magical glory. Get it. Cover art is a plus for show, but her music is a triumph.

One of the best
One of my favorite albums of all time. With a great piano-balladeering style and a fantastic soprano voice by Kate Bush.Great for listening late at night. Relaxing and beautiful! The one I purchased is the 1997 edition with the original US cover (not the yellow one with the kite). Great sound and mastering work, by the way. However, the liner notes needed a little more work, they are minimal. At least I can read the lyrics though.

The Kick Inside
The Kick Inside was my introduction to Kate Bush. I originally owned it on LP and played it until it was nearly unplayable. I bought the CD recently so that I could also play this on my iPod. While I love most of her work, this recording still continues to be my favorite. From the evocative "Wuthering Heights" to the hauntingly beautiful "L'amour looks something like you", this recording continues to show up on my "most played" list.

I Still Dream
Kate Bush is one of the most talented humans to grace this mundane mudball and I'd like to encourage more people to actually LISTEN to every aspect of every song she puts out.Comparing her talent to the likes of tori amos is an insultto Kate Bush. Kate Bush stands far above---STILL---in therealm of progressive thinking, creative music, outfits, dance, movements, playing on words without missing a breath...I could go on forever, but I know America has a short attention span. So:Lose tori amos, et al.Buy Kate Bush.Hey--you'll learn a lot...and may find a few smiles in between. No Apologies, ari

Excelente disco

Oh what might have been
What a shame to think we would never had heard the genius of Kate Bush if it weren't for David Gilmour of Pink Floyd receiving a demo from Ricky Hopper, a mutual friend of Gilmour and the Bush family. The demo was rejected by numerous record labels who lacked the intuition or creative foresight to recognize the talent that lay before them. How lucky for us that this quirky teen and her immense talent wasn't lost to anonymity in the urban village of East Wickham she called home. As it were, her unique voice and musical talent were on full display in this debut with solid singles and some songs being written when she was as young as 13 years old.
