Smart wool are more expensive. But, the material is tighter weave, padded footbed. Every shoe and boot fills better with smart wool. No rubbing, fits the toe area perfectly. The wool will pill around the heel in time, wool does that. Wool forms around your foot just like a good saddle blanket does. Well worth the money. You will loose the other sock before they ever wear out, so buy 2 pairs.

I have several pairs of SmartWool hiking socks, and they have performed very well. They are well made, comfortable and have good cushioning. I prefer wool over cotton or synthetic fibers for hiking. They are warm in cold weather and wick moisture in warm weather. This brand is a little more expensive than some others, but well worth the price to me. This review is specifically for the medium sock, but they also offer a lighter and a more thickly cushioned version. Pick the weight to fit your activity.

These came recommended from the YT Channel "Life is a Special Operation." I was a little shocked at first when the price was for 1 pair of socks. But then again I see why. I've ordered several pairs of wool socks and these are by far the best. They have a tight weave and feel great. Keep my feet toasty but not sweaty. Work great with all pairs of boots I have. No slipping or hot spots. Highly recommended!

I wear SmartWool socks summer and winter. They are not too hot, they last a very long time and they are very, very comfortable. And not at all itchy, like other wool items. A little pricey, but worth it to me. They last and keep on looking good.

These are fine hiking socks, good at foot temperature and sweat management, and have held up well over several hundred miles on the trails. However, though I ordered, received (per the packaging), and initially had two apparently identical pairs of the socks, in the same size, one pair shrunk significantly and the other did not. Have only washed and dried them together, and therefore in the same wash conditions and for the same number of wash and dryer cycles. Slightly annoying, suggests quality control issues, and how manufacturers reliably lose a star.

I bought 3 pr to replace those i bought over 5 yrs ago and are just now getting down to threads on the heels.On weekends in particular im always wearing these. I have chronically cold feet and if i dont manage sweat im miserable. I only wear merino wool socks (diff types for work and working in yard etc on weekends). I wear these in work shoes when im on my feet constantly like for an entire day. They take an absolute beating.These are just thick enough in the right places and thin across the top. I really dislike those "hiking socks" that feel like youre walking around with sleeping bags on your feet. And these are just the right snugness by way of the blend etc. They hug the foot perfectly. I was worried i would not find the same type but took a shot from the picture and color (chestnut). I put a pair on as soon as they arrived and all i can say is... "footgasm". May buy some extras in case they ever get discontinued.

These socks are excellent. A little pricey for a single set of socks but well worth it. I now have several sets, not just for hiking but for day to day use as well. Super comfortable.

These socks define comfort. I have huge calves so I have a lot of problems with most socks either not being able to pull them up all the way or having my circulation reduced off from socks that dig into my calves. These fit perfectly and are stretchy enough that they comfortably fit my calves. They are very warm without being "suffocating" on my feet.Just be aware, these socks are thick (I would guess them to be roughly 50% thicker than the Pearl Izumi or Defeet wool socks I wear). If you shoes are snug with regular socks you might want to avoid these but as long as you have a little extra room in your shoe, you will have a hard time finding a better sock for the money.

Very comfy socks, not too warm, even on very hot days, still well cushioned despite being on the thinner side, no pain, no blisters, happy enough!

These socks are what I prefer to wear, don't normally wear wool anything but received a pair for Xmas about 5 years ago loved them .

Have become the only type of socks I wear under my work boots. Worth every penny.
