This makes a great bedside table clock: easy to see, large enough to set without fumbling, looks nice, and uses just one AA battery --- "pre-charged" rechargeable NIMH batteries work fine with this clock. I recommend Panasonic Advanced Individual Cell Battery Charger with eneloop AA 2100 Cycle Rechargeable Batteries (White, Pack of 4) if you're new to rechargeables.You will congratulate yourself on finding an inexpensive alarm clock that doesn't look or feel cheap. I hate TINY travel alarm clocks. I used to travel on business a lot and always packed a decent sized alarm clock; it makes you feel like you're at home.I obviously did not have much success as a backpacker; I was foolish enough to insist on packing stuff like a small CAST IRON skillet on trips to the back country. I ate well, but didn't cover much ground.

The ticking is a bit loud, but the clock is great for a spare room.

It's okay ... wish alarm went off louder but, it will do.
