Mark Twain - Jumpstarters for Figurative Language, Grades 4 - 8 Paperback – March 1, 2007

I wasn't really looking for warm-ups and wanted something more in-depth, but I can see where this might be useful. Some of the activites are more clear than others, but I love that it goes into less-covered types of figurative language like synecdoche. Allusion is a tough one because many of my students (particularly English Language Learners) don't have any background in the stories that are being alluded to, so a asking them "Flying monkeys is an allusion to what story" is a useless and sort of unfair question, but one that needs to be asked anyway if that makes sense.

I use these as daily writing warm ups and love the different types of thinking and activities within these.

This item is not what I had hoped it to be but it is okay.

I teach 7th grade Language Arts. This book is great to use for daily, quick warm ups. I use books like this everyday, and my students seem to enjoy doing them! It also has an answer key in the back, which is awesome!!!
