Nothing Prepares You For A Jack - But This Helps
We have two Jack Russell Terrorizors, and this book helped with the basics. I read it cover to cover a few times, and it had some good hints. It would be best to get this book before you ever get a dog, but I am sure that if you buy this book it is because you are already getting a Jack, not because you went out and bought every book of every type of dog. That is the only downside to this book. It spends way too much time talking about the decision to get a Jack. I guess this is because a lot of people got Jack's thinking they were apartment dogs and realized they had bought a Rambo when they should have bought a Fifi. This book should have said that Jack's are way more resilient than any other dog you can probably get (read: way more stubborn, so you can't always be the Dog Whisperer, you sometimes have to be the Dog Shouter). You will have to be very consistent and strict (I am a softie, so some of the hints were not good for me, because it should say "Get ready to be a Drill Sargent"). Jacks are very smart, tough, territorial (especially if female and with puppies, or male and there is a female in heat nearby, or just in general), (they can be aggressive, my 14 lb jack attached a 150 lb Rottweiler and had kicked his butt before we could get them apart) and you have to be prepared to keep them busy. Also be prepared for them to take forever to be potty trained (up to a year). Mine are now happy, so loving, and I am glad I had this book. We live in a Townhouse, and our dogs are loving it. They do get walked every morning, get busy games to play with and have a two hour play group every day so they get lots of diversion, which they absolutely require.

Cheaply made, and there are better books on this subject
I ordered this book because I saw it on a breed association website. However, there are other books on this subject that I think are more useful. Additionally the book is cheaply made, which makes it unpleasant to read. It also arrived damaged from being folded /rolled up. I didn't return it because I thought I could flatten it with weights on it but that hasn't happened. I give this 3 stars. It's ok for the price, but just average.

Recommended by Club
This book was recommended by the JRT club. I was pleased to find that it has quite a lot of info particular to Jack Russell Terriers. I recommend it for new or prospective Jack owners, especially an inexperienced dog owner. Read it before you commit to owning this breed.

Jack Russell Terriers, quarky, energetic challengers! Gotta love Them!
The LEGIONNAIRE is a trust worthy seller, GREAT QUALITY books & quick shipping.I bought the "Jack Russell Terriers for DUMMIES," from them to self-help with my new challenging puppy. They were so comforting by writting me a personal note on their challenges with their own JRT & what a great companion he grew up to be. I had never encountered a seller this kind before.

Call us crazy...2 JRT pups!
Call us crazy. After our last pup (a JRT mix) passed away last year we knew we needed some time. After deciding we were finally ready, we started looking and came across some Jack Russel pups. Silly us, we decided to get two so they could keep each other company! We love the dogs, love their personalities...and they are smart little girls. This book helped us know more about JRTs than we did...especially some of the odd habits. Many of the tips were right on target. They are cute as can be, need lots of exercise and training. We are currently in puppy class to work on socialization...meeting other pups and people. JRTs are not for everyone...but if you are thinking about getting one this book helped us!

Whether the ride is 5 minutes or 3 hours he sounds like a squeaky hamster wheel
What I needed to know about, and the book didn't cover, was whimpering in the car. He is 2 years old and gladly jumps into the car, but starts the whimpering as soon as the car starts to move. Whether the ride is 5 minutes or 3 hours he sounds like a squeaky hamster wheel. I will need to talk to the vet about that. The book really only covers anxiety in puppies being separated from their mothers. That is not helpful, since my dog is 2.

Sanity saver for raising a Jack Russell
This book is amazing. My puppy will be arriving in a few days and this book will be a blessing in preparing me for her. There is everything in this book from welcoming her home to everything including understanding the jr personality. This is another must have book.

Both good commands to learn
It has been helpful. We are enjoying her being a puppy, but need to teach her more than sit and come. Both good commands to learn! I followed the book's instructions for both of those commands, and she learned them quickly. "Stay" may be another challenge! I would make this a 5 star, but have not read another book to compare it to. Easy to read!

Tells it like it is with humour
I brought this book after living with a Jack for 6 years, had dogs all my life mostly terriers. Read many books once she joined us, steep learning curve getting a jack thought I knew terriers. Loved the no nonsense tell it like it is with humour, reassured me her behaviour for a Jack was normal and what I'd been doing was right. Great for saying how it is, hopefully if people read this before getting a jack will know whet to expect so less will end up in rescue centres wher we adopted ours

Jack Russell Training
I did use this book a little, but like to other book that I bought I felt that it was primarily for the US market and some of the things were not necessarily easily available in the UK. Some of the training was ok and has been verified by the trainer that I resorted to eventaully.I think that some of my problems arose because I think a dog is a dog and not a child. (Although I brought up my four children with quite strict discipline and they have all become good law abiding strong adults). So I am on the side of being stricter. I am sure it works for a lot of people.

Worth getting
Good book but too much about choosing the right puppy and not enough about training naughty little menaces that you’ve already got
