There are better collections
I ordered this eight-album set to complete my collection of Stanley Brothers material. Unfortunately the collection does not live up to its name ("8 Classic Albums") and came with a broken tray card. I am returning it. The eight albums are taken from only two years of the Stanley Brothers' twenty-year career: 1958-1960. Only two of the eight are classic in the sense of consistently excellent and enduring. These are "The Stanley Brothers and the Clinch Mountain Boys" and "Hymns and Sacred Songs" -- Carter and Ralph's first two albums for King Records. I you are interested in the Stanley Brothers, you can find the same material and more with complete notes for each album on the two Starday/King boxed sets, eaching containing four CDs. I recommend the first one with the earlier recordings, including the two classic albums. Excellent early Stanley Brothers recordings are available on both the complete Columbia and complete Mercury recordings. "8 Classic Albums" gives listeners a slim sample of the Stanley Brothers' career; and if you want the best of 1958-1959, you can buy the two classic CDs separately for much less. -- David W. Johnson

Great Sound
Thee of the four CDs have good sound. The fourth which is the first CD sound is a little thin but still good Overall the set is terrific.

Terrific Deal - lots of great music for the money!l
Incredible deal for the money. The recordings are very good and the packaging is great. I highly recommend this collection and can't imagine how this could be a better deal

A great collection
This is a very inexpensive collection of eight of their earliest albums, several of which are gospel. The Stanley Brothers are the best and the cost of this collection, being so low, makes this a great value.

This is fab!
I am a new, late convert to Ralph Stanley and these albums have made me even more of a fan. Unlike one of the reviews I read, I really love the Christian songs and feel that is where The Stanley Brothers hearts are. I really enjoyed the energy and feeling that comes through their singing. But all the albums have something to offer! I think I got a bargain.

Great collection
Thios is a great collection of some classic albums. The only reason I'm giving a four star review rather than five is because one of the discs jumps tracks which is disappointing.

When you buy a collection in this format you can't expect the sound quality to be first-rate, but this set is still a great retrospective of the groundbreaking writing and arranging of Carter and Ralph.

You know what to expect
The Stanley Brothers were probably the best bluegrass band ever in terms of total musicality. Ok others had the hits and some could beat the Stanleys hands-down in terms of technique but how long can one listen to technique without wanting to hear performers with something to say musically? So hear you have eight brilliant albums reproduced in really good sound for less than a tenner. The religious stuff perhaps dominates too much but so what? At this price the odd cd which is not listened to much is hardly a drawback.

The Stanley Brothers
No less than eight bluegrass albums in this Box Set, the first being from the Mercury label, followed by others from the King label. This is a great collection of bluegrass, with Ralph Stanley being among the best of the banjo players, with Carter Stanley on the guitar and a brilliant vocalist who unfortunaely passed away as a fairly young man, leaving Ralph to continue later on. This is a wonderful collection of traditional bluegrass by the two brothers known as the Stanley Brothers.

8 classic albums

Highly recommended,
Fantastic duo and one of the most important acts in country and bluegrass music. Great singing. Great voices. Great songs and great picking. Perhaps more religious music than I would normally want but it is simply great music whether it be religious or not. The sound reproduction is superb. Not always the case with vintage releases. Not much in terms of liner notes as is usual with this label. However, it is great music and a great introduction to the Stanley Brothers. Anyone who loves country music or bluegrass should have some Stanley Brother sin their collection. Great collection. Great value. Highly recommended.
