Rainew111 "Storm Total" Cabled Rain Gauge

I have purchased and enjoyed Rainwise products for 15 years. The products are very good and well made. However, the company merged or was bought out in the last year or 2 and the customer service is practically non-existent. When you get someone on the line they are helpful. Getting someone to respond is next to impossible! Emails go unanswered. Telephone calls get you a robot generated email with a case #. No one calls unless continuously badgered and then it's rare! I will not buy another Rainwise product!

This tipping bucket rain gauge is sturdy and well designed, and although mine has only been deployed for a few months, I anticipate many years of service. The gauge appears very accurate, closely matching readings from a standard glass gauge. Its design is eminently hackable and easily modified for interfacing into existing weather data systems. The data signal originates from a reed switch, which momentarily closes with each tip of the bucket. (Contact debouncing is thus necessary for digital data systems.) I am very happy with this device and would definitely purchase it again. I would also recommend it as a good-quality rain sensor for makers and electronics-oriented individuals interested in designing their own weather stations.Caveat: I have not used the included tip counter, so I cannot comment on its reliability or suitability to purpose. The review above applies only to the tipping bucket assembly.)

Bought two to replace 15y.o. earlier models. I tested the catch against a garbage can and the depth readings are quite close -- as a simple tipping bucket, i think accuracy is adequate. They are reasonably indestructible, i have repaired one using JB weld after i drove over it, It works fine, just looks ugly.

Bought this Rainwise 111, an automated rain gauge, about 3 years ago to check the accuracy of my Davis Vantage Pro 2 devices that also have automated rain gauges. The Rainwise I believe is more accurate than either of my VP2s based on side-by-side comparisons to the gold-standard in rain gauges, the CoCoRaHS manual plastic gauge. If I could hook up this Rainwise to one of my VP2s, I would do it. This is normally quite doable but my particular setup precludes that. Too bad. The Rainwise 111 is very accurate!I have reduced my rating from 5 to 3 stars. The gauge failed after 18 months. It worked great originally.

Works great! I buried the cable for about 4' by putting it inside a plastic tube (3/8 ID) where the cable runs under a brick sidewalk. That did not seem to affect the operation and the plastic tube should prevent the wire from degrading.

I bought one of these about 15 years ago.It still works perfectly
