No joy in Mudville???
I had bought this as I've been looking for Disney's version of "Casey At The Bat" for years. As my headline point out, however, what I fondly recall from childhood is not what exists in reality today. I think this is typical of not only Disney cartoons, but Looney Tunes and Tom & Jerry, and even Hanna-Barbera's. While most of it is still "cute," the animation is at times crude and while I really don't care one way or the other, much of the content is politically incorrect these days (esp. the "Little Hiawatha" short). Unlike Warner Bros, who've added a disclaimer to their reissues about changing values and the need for historic preservation, Disney simply does what Disney has always done: ignore it and act like nothing's wrong. Casey At the Bat takes so much leeway (I'm sorry, "poetic license") with Thayer's original that whole chunks of the poem are lost. Perhaps I'm too young to know who Jerry Colonna was (he does the narration), but he hams it up too much. While part of me likes having these animated shorts available in a DVD collection, part of me is disappointed. Maybe it's because I was never really big on Disney as a kid, I always thought the company's stuff was "sappy." Did I enjoy visiting Disney World in Orlando at age 10? OF course I did. Have I been back in the 43 years since? Nope. Bonus quibble: I bought this used so it didn't have the bonus storybook(let) of Casey at the Bat included. Bummer...no joy in Mudville there.

Brings back awesome memories
This is perfect for people who like the old Disney cartoons, and for young children also. Even comes with a book!

Replacement
Was going through and replacing all the old VHS, upgrading to DVD or better, and I couldn't believe I actually found this one. The VHS I had was The Reluctant Dragon paired with Morris the Moose, so it was nice to get Casey at the Bat and Little Hiawatha as bonuses to that which I was expecting. A new generation of kiddos will now get to enjoy the same movies I did!

ok
I ordered this volume of the timeless classics because I wanted to share them with my grandchild. This one was OK but disappointing. I remembered this as better than it actually was. Also my grandchild did not enjoy this as well as the other volumes.

Timeless Tales
Disney's Timeless Tales are just that - timeless tales. These old cartoons dating back to the 30-ties are beautifully renovated and made to look like new. I truly recommend them.

Classic Disney Americana for kids.
These are the treatments that my geration grew up with in the 50's. I make sure that my students have that same opportunity.
