Worked Great - after installed correctly.
I had DE backing up and leaking back into my hayward matrix pump basket from my Perflex EC50 filter. I bought a new check valve thinking that was the problem (all the boards indicated it should be). I poppeed out the old check valve from my perflex EC50, but still had that brass backing (a washer) on it! I was not expecting that, nor was Hayward Tech support. [you can see the washer in the picture that amazon shows here]. What the problem ended up being for my filter, was that the old check valve was sideways in the filter! When you look into the filter from the outside, the rubber flap (check valve) was sideways, so the flap did not have gravity helping it shut correctly when the pump turned off. Because the flap (check valve) did not shut all the way, the filter let the DE back out into the pump & pump filter. After getting the valve out, I noticed the rubber flap was now warped from being sideways for so long, so even if I put the old valve it back in, it would no longer seal. Good thing I bought this new valve.Getting the old check valve out was a pain, but with Hayward Tech support on the phon, and a lot of pictures sent to their email, we figured it out (just pull harder). They were very helpful (5 stars for them too)!

Perfect Fit
This little-known part solved my problem of water and earth backing up into my pump. Originally, I thought the problem was with the pump itself. Very easy to install, once you disconnect the filter from the pump.

Difficult part to access
As others have said, it is difficult to remove the flanged elbow which this part fits into. I used a mirror at first to see how much the tabs at the top of the elbow had to be pressed together before the small catch on it would release (they have to touch each other). I washed the DE away from the area and liberally sprayed the sliding dado surfaces that hold the flange of the elbow with WD40. I then squeezed the plastic tabs on top of the elbow together with one hand and simultaneously grasped abound the elbow with my other hand, and tried to wiggle the elbow up and down. There was next to no movement, so I unscrewed the filter's inlet fitting from the outside of the filter, but don't know if that helped at all. I sprayed some more WD and went at it again. Took almost a full minute of wiggling. Just be persistent, wiggling and squeezing the tabs and eventually it will begin to slide straight up. Over time and use, the DE that managed to get into the slide that the flange goes into, really grabs the plastic. I rinsed the parts with water once they were free and the old check valve came out with very little resistance (the gold metal piece and rubber flapper were missing on my old piece). There is a tiny notch in the bottom of the check valve to help you align it back into the elbow, and as the included instructions mention, the gold colored metal piece should face up. I also replace the o-ring that was on the flanged elbow, put a very light coating of silicone grease on it and the edges of the plastic flange and the whole assemble very easily went back in place. You'd never know it would be that difficult to take apart later - hope that day never comes.

direct replacement
You know the check valve is bad when you get DE from the filter backing into the pump when its shut off. Exact replacement for original. It's not to easy to get to as you need to disassemble the filter and remove the snap rings from the inside. One is on the turn down elbow/diffuser. The second actually holds the fitting into the side of the filter case. The fitting is a little bugger to get out but once you remove the snap ring from the inside just keep working it out and tapping/pressing with your hand. It will come loose once the DE that is trapped between the filter housing and the fitting loosens up. Wiggle it a bit also. Once the fitting is out and in your hands take a screwdriver or punch and knock out the broken check valve. Place the new one in but be careful as you can get it 180 degrees off. If this happens you won't know till you assemble it totally back and try to place the diffuser (turn down elbow) in place. It has a notch in it and goes on in only one direction (the fitting the check valve fits in is also directional and fits into a notch). Quality wise its the same as the one I took out which lasted for about 5 or 6 years.

The new one worked great, but getting the old one out is a ...
I have a ec65 filter. Heard some noise resembling marbles rattling around at the end of last years pool season. Checked things out and found the check valve was starting to tear and the rubber was deteriorating. The new one worked great, but getting the old one out is a joke. I read some comments like just pull harder. I even pulled the filter apart thinking I could push it out from the inside. But they designed it so you can't get to it even from the inside of the unit. After trying to pull it out and starting to mess up the threads I decided the way that would cause the least damage was to cut it out. You have to be very careful or you can mess it up this way too. Just be real careful not to damage the threads. I cut two small slices (not cutting completely through) with a fine hacksaw blade and was able to pop out the slice and the grab it with needle nose pliers and pull it out. I would think there gotta be a better way to design this filter for check valve replacement.
