It is specified in most any application due to its strength, heat treat ability, easy machinability, and weld ability. It is also capable of being anodized, adding a layer of protection for finished parts. The main alloy ingredients of 6061 aluminum are magnesium and silicon.
Our custom blank picatinny rail is extruded in 6061T6511 aircraft grade aluminum. These uncut blanks come four feet long for any custom application, and the .750" height of the rail gives you the option to finish at nearly any height you are after.
