A disappointing game resource
A rather big disappointment after the excellent The Darkest Hour core book. SOEH doesn't really read like a game book. It is largely sections of SOE tactics like demolition, assassination and the like. The writing is rather dry in that regard and lacking detail. There are bigger flaws though when one things of it as a game resource. The game mechanics introduced are few and generally lack examples. In fact, the whole book lacks any significant, meaningful gameplay examples. So it lacks excitement and doesn't draw the reader in as a player or Keeper.Further, there is hardly any SOE history referenced in the book. Chapter on demolition, how about some real-life SOE examples? Nope? Assassination examples? Nope. So there is little inspiration for Keepers to draw from.In the end, I don't know who this book is for. Keepers? Players? SOEH isn't a great reference for either. In the end it is a rather disappointing game resource. Given the general quality from C7 and The Darkest Hour in particular, I was expecting a lot more.
