Is this coarse or fine wheat bran?

This is the only wheat bran I've ever used, but it is coarser than I expected, so my uneducated guess would be "coarse."

Was this wheat bran washed to remove residual starch?

It does not say on the package if it was washed. It does not appear starchy to me but I would suggest going to the Bob's Red Mill web site to answer that question.

10g of carbohydrates per 1/4 cup, with 6g of fiber. So a total of 4g of net carbs per 1/4 cup.

Would soaking the bran improve the taste and texture without losing the stool softening and motivating benefits?

My Fibromyalgia Nurse gave me an easy recipe that mixes Wheat bran & apple sauce equal amounts*. I use unsweetened in the single serve size (1/2 cup) to make a batch. (I don't use sweetened because sugar's not good for the gut.) Take 2 teaspoonsful** daily- adjust the time of day once your body regulates - only takes a couple days. *When mixing, put in the Wheat bran first so the apple sauce keeps the flakes from floating off! **I use a regular teaspoon not a measuring one & "level it off". The amount doesn't have to be exact.
