A great version of checkers
We love this version of checkers in my house! The original checkers is a great strategy game, and it’s simple enough for young children (unlike Chess or Risk or more complicated games). I think the game of checkers can teach important skills to kids about thinking ahead, planning, and using patience to implement a strategy. However, the plain, basic checkers game often seems boring to kids. This game of Cupcake Checkers introduces colors and other fun aspects (popping dice and candles for “kinging”) so that kids feel like they are playing a fun kids’ game. At the same time, the game retains many of its original elements so that it continues to be a great learning tool (and fun for adults too). All in all, this is a great game for kids. My 4.5 year old loves it.

Great game
Playing this with my 5 year old, she loves it. We play the MadCap and regular checkers way. This game is awesome! My only one issue is that the candles are soft and I'm afraid over time they will break.

Fun family game - can be played like the original or with a twist.
Very cute game. You can play this just like regular checkers or you can use the dice and play with a twist. The pieces look like mini cupcakes and the box is sturdy as well as the pieces and game board.

Fun For Adults As Well As Children
This is a fun game that is great for children and adults. It adds a new spin on checkers that adds more luck and strategy at the same time.Instead of moving one piece at a time this game comes with three dice. The dice have three chocolate and three strawberry candles on each of them. The dice are in a popper and once popped any combination of pink and chocolate candles can come up. The person who pressed the popper then gets the move his/her or the opponents cupcakes based on how the dice came up. Once one of a person’s candles reaches the other side of the board it becomes s king and gets a candle put in it. Like checkers the winner either captures all his or her opponents cup cakes or the opponent’s cupcakes are blocked in.This does add a fun amount of luck and strategy at the same time. I have played this with adults and found the game enjoyable. I also played it with my friend’s son who is eight and daughter who is ten and they seemed to enjoy it as well. The cupcakes look like small chocolate and strawberry cupcakes. The candles are flat and yellow on one side with blue stripes on the other. They stick into the top of the cupcakes. The board of is made of cardboard and is folded. It should last.My only complaint about the game is there are multicolored cupcakes on the box cover which have sprinkles on them. The pink and chocolate cupcakes that come with the game are nice but the don’t look nearly as nice as the cupcakes on the cover. I was a little disappointed when I opened the box and saw the cupcakes inside compared to the ones on the cover. Other than that this is a fun game for adults as well as children.

Fun Variation but Watch Out for the Munches
If you love checkers but at the same time find it to be a bit tired and boring, this version from Madd Capp may be something to consider. It comes in several styles but this one is the cupcake lovers so the black pieces are chocolate cupcakes while the red pieces are strawberry cupcakes. Plastic toy cupcakes, by the way, not real ones. Two things make this different from your normal checkers game. First, you get three moves per turn instead of one. Second, you use a dice popper to help determine which color you must spend those moves on. You might get three moves with your own cupcakes or three for your opponent or a combination of 1:2 or 2:1. These two changes make the game faster and more random, you have to adjust your normal checkers strategies to play. The foam candles that you use to "king" a cupcake need to be squeezed to be inserted but they stay until you gently pull them out, a little squeeze at the base helps but these could tear if you are too rough with them. The same with the dice popper, don't slam you hand down, you do not need to do that, and if you do you risk cracking the plastic dome.Overall a fun alternative to checkers with a delicious theme. Just don't confuse the pieces with actual cupcakes!

an adorable game
This is basic checkers with a twist. When it's your turn, instead of just moving your checker, you pop the dice to see if you're going to move yourself or your opponent. Once we figured out the rules, we had a blast playing it! It has all the same easy rules as checkers except you can really get more competitive. Though it suggests it's for players eight and up, younger players will have no issue figuring out what to do.The game board is your standard fold-up board, but it's bright and colorful. The checker pieces are actually plastic cupcakes. They're pretty darn adorable and nice and sturdy. When you 'king' someone, there are foam candles that are placed into the top of the checker. The candles fit in nicely so that they stay in place, but they aren't difficult to insert or remove. I can see these easily being lost, so we keep putting them right into the little plastic bag that comes with the game. The only issue I had with this game is that chocolate always goes first and strawberry always goes second. This may sound a little silly, but when you get two children playing that know that chocolate goes first, fights can erupt. Everybody wants to be chocolate so they get the first turn!Over all, this is an adorable game that's suitable for children as well as adults.
