(Discontinued by Manufacturer - 4th Gen Available) MrCool DIY 12k BTU 22 SEER Ductless Heat Pump Split System 3rd Generation - Energy Star 120V with Line Set Cover & IR Wifi Thermostat

Had a single car garage (220sq ft) and needed to cool and heat it when the time comes. Bought a little $300 portable AC unit with one exhaust outlet but that didn’t do the job well in the summer and didn’t heat in the winter (Los Angeles weather).So saw this DIY unit and since I’m a DIY guy all the way thru and thru, decided to take a stab at it. I’ve seen similar units run at my work places being used in our server rooms so I know these units work.Install took about 4 hours with 2 guys taking our time. Hardest part was running the plastics line covers (lol) to protect the line sets. Everything else was easy (just watch the YouTube video and you’ll be set). Wired up the electrical and plugged one end to my normal 110 outlet on the side of my house and was good to go!Noise is super quiet for the compressor fan that I have to go outside to check that it’s actually running. This was one of my worries since the unit is close to my neighbor’s house and next to my sons bedroom window. I thought it’ll be semi loud like my normal whole house AC COMPRESSOR, but it’s super quiet (sounds like a small fan set on medium).All in all, I use the ‘comfort’ setting and its majntained 75 degrees constant. Will have to see how it’ll do in the so cal summer but I fingered it’ll cool fine for a small space.Very happy with the purchase and value of the unit.

Installed this about a week ago and it cools the bathroom and bedroom so well I had to pull up the blanket when I sleep. Can't speak to reliability as haven't owned it for only little over one month. The installation instructions are detailed to a point, however watching several videos helped somewhat. You will need a 120V outside disconnect (non-fusible type), pad for the condenser to sit on (concrete or plastic), 20A Single Pole Circuit Breaker. Concrete Anchors or Screws to secure the outside unit to the pad and non expanding foam to fill up the 3.5" hole for the line set, drain hose and control cable to go through the wall. Installing the inside unit on the wall requires two people. It also came with the line set cover to hide everything on the outside wall. I did have to call them and request additional rolls of UV resistant tape for the line set which they sent right away. Overall very pleased and looking into a larger Mr Cool system for the entire house.

Very easy to install. Instructions were complete and written for novice. Not as heavy as I thought it would be. Both the indoor unit and the outdoor unit are VERY quiet. I setup mine on WIFI and can control remotely. My only downside (which is not a complaint) is that because it is DIY, it comes with pre-charged fixed tubing length (16ft or 24ft?) with the connectors permanently installed on each end, so if your space between the units is less, you end up with a coil of tubing. I don't know any way around it, and it does NOT effect the operation or efficiency. Just something to consider. I ended up building a small box on the outside wall surrounding the extra coil near the outdoor unit. Their engineers have done a great job designing a system that is truly DIY - maybe they can figure out a way to customize the tubing length? Would highly recommend, and would definitely buy again.

Do not buy, zero support by Mr Cool, the seller or Amazon. It is a DIY install, the only way you will know if it works is by installing it. It was easy to install, but once it was installed it did not put out any cool air. I tried to call Mr Cool's support line and after 3 days of multiple calls and voice messages, I received an email saying a warranty case had been opened and someone would give me a call. After another week of trying to call them, I had my neighbor who is a HVAC Technician, look at it and he found that it was installed correctly and the compressor did not kick in, they suspect a faulty board.I emailed his report to Mr Cool, and again could never get any feedback.After all this I was done with it and had him install a different unit. I contacted Amazon and the seller to return it and they said it was not possible, because the box was opened and it had been installed. How could you possibly know if it does work unless you install it. Save your self this money and either buy a different brand or have a HVAC company install one for you.

I’m updating my review after getting some customer service. The technician that got ahold of me was actually very nice and gave me some troubleshooting advise for the future. The thermostat wasn’t working but seems to be now. This unit comes with a lot of options for controlling it. There’s a wall unit (similar to a nest), a remote and a usb dongle so you can use your phone. The problem is they don’t all synce to each other easily or possible at all. The unit does have a lot of nice features and so far as long as the thermostat continues to work, I like it.

I wanted to install Ductless Mini Split on my Side Apartment, which was initially estimated at $4500 by a professional.I decided to install MrCool 12000BTU unit myself and it was extremely easy to install. It took me few hours to install and the documentation helped me a lot.On another note, outdoor unit doesnt make any noise, i literally go to the unit and see, if its switched on.Highly recommend the product.

We had our mini split installed over the weekend. All is working fine (and it connects to Google) but the line cover set was missing. As the Line Cover Set is $170 on Amazon, I contacted the seller to get this resolved. I'll have to pay the installers again to install the line cover set which wouldn't have happened if all the included items were in the box.

Pretty easy to install. Directions and online videos aid if you're not super comfortable doing it on your own. I use the unit in a 10' x 14' shop in my garage ... working great so far!
