Skywriting + Singles

Just wanted to add to the other review that these sweet poetic melancholy indie pop songs resonated with me for years. Mostly, they felt like a friend, a soundtrack to staring out a bus window while heading out of the city and going on mystery trips, hopeful crushes, hopeless ones, etc. I've just gotten this double disc set, wanting to hear the songs again (it was vinyl and tapes then) and perhaps the bundling up of all these songs isn't the best format- for me, falling in love with a single or the album (and it's one of those where side a and b feel like two separate experiences) is the best way to discover these. There is an innocence here, and it's not the sort of music that will jump out at you, but I just felt like adding that there is heart and beauty within.

While this textbook vintage British mope rock can hold appeal for fans of nostalgia (as you can practically smell the encased atmosphere scenesters would have engaged at that time and place) in the here and now most material has a hard time escaping parody, let alone a plodding nature.

Die "Field Mice" waren eine britische Band, die von 1988 bis 1991 existierte und ihre Karriere auf dem berüchtigten Sarah-Label begann, das für die Wiederbelebung des Single-Formats stand. Jedes Stück der Band mußte daher so gut sein, das es auch als Single hätte veröffentlicht werden können. In der Tat schufen die Field Mice in ihrer kurzen Existenz neben etlichen Singles und EPs vier überragende LPs/CDs mit Gitarren-Pop-Musik zeitloser Schönheit.Diese Compilation präsentiert auf 2 CDs mit ca 107 Minuten Spielzeit das zweite Album "Skywriting"(1990) der Band und addiert alle Tracks der EPs "The Autumn Store(Part 1 and 2)" und "So Said Kay" sowie einige Samplerstücke.Etliche der Tracks erscheinen somit zum ersten Mal überhaupt auf CD.Die Leichtigkeit,mit der die Band pure Pop-Perlen auf Platte bannte erreichte kaum eine Band je wieder.Fast scheint es, als wären die schwebenden, ätherischen Gitarrenriffs im Himmel selbst entstanden, so leicht und luftig klingen sie.Leider trennte sich die Band 1991 in viele verschiedene Bandprojekte, alle nahezu erfolglos.Äußerst empfehlenswert und noch repräsentativer für den Sound der Band ist übrigens auch die D-CD "Whered You Learn To Kiss That Way?", das allerdings einige Überschneidungen mit dieser Veröffentlichung aufweist, insgesamt aber noch bessere Stücke enthält.

Second mini album du groupe phare de Sarah records, contenant moins de titres aussi bons que sur Snowball. Le côté un peu plus électro et moins pop me plait moins. Ceci étant, vu le nombre de titres présents, on y trouve tout de même des pépites qui raviront les fans de pop indé de la fin des 80's.

メンバーが５人に整ってからのラストアルバムか。ボビーとハーベィ、そしてヒズコックの絡みは相変わらず見事。２枚目は各種アウトテーク、そしてアザーギャラクシーズ収録という貴重盤。というかこのレーベル再発はみんな貴重。更なるプレスを切望。
