while you can read just one…..
Though they are stand a lone stories The main characters in the books will call you to read them allThey are each flawed; each memorable; each teachable. They learn and grow in character and faith. The stories take place in real history with true people along with our created casts. The stories are well woven into their time and place yetWith a depth that draws you in though it may take a few pages ,I truly enjoyed some of the supporting characters who frequently touched my heart and made me think. Definitely a worthwhile read though there is enough drama reading it at bedtime may keep you up for just one more chapter :)I do wish their had been a deeper spiritual strain but what was there was solid and felt naturally part of the story. Not an add onFor my taste a bit more description of their physical attraction than necessaryI do recommend this series highly and follow Jody Hedlund onAmazonPerhaps there will be a follow on book for each of there stories i want to know what happens next.

Wonderful tale, Great historical setting!!!
Captured by Love by Jody Hedlund starts off with a fearful Angelique taking food in the dark from her tyrant step father along with a few fish she caught to a blind widow,Miriam. From this clutching beginning, this book takes one on a dangerous journey. The British have taken over the island, and they have forced all that remain to give allegiance to the king. Pierre, Miriam's son returns from fur trapping to find that his mother desperately needs his help. However, the longer he stays the more he wonders if he is staying for his mother or for Angelique, and he wonders just how long is it safe to stay? This is a beautifully woven story rich in history with wonderful, deep characters. Angelique is a character with whom I fell in love. Her struggles are so poignant and real. She is in a very tough situation herself, yet she is more worried about others. She finds herself struggling to make sure that the passion growing in her is one that should be followed. She doesn't just " follow her heart", but she wants to follow what is right. Pierre really jumps off the page as a strong character willing to forsake all for the unbelievable love he finds growing inside of him. The change that God is making in him is well written and displayed. He is struggling with his inner flesh, but over time he is learning how better to keep it under submission. The history setting of Michilimackinac Island ( now known as Mackinac Island) is new to me as I expect it will be to most readers. As a fan of historical fiction, it is wonderful to read a story with history that I had never before known. This story has it all- strong characters, well written plot, and amazingly detailed history. I highly recommend this read.I was given this read by the publisher for my honest opinion which I have given.

Captivating
This book was so interesting because it’s set on an island occupied by the British during the war of 1812., which is historically accurate. The love between Pierre and Angelique is so passionate and yet frustrating because of the love triangle between them and his missing brother. There’s a lot of angst over whether or not she should break her promise to Jean to marry him when he returned. Angelique also has to deal with an abusive stepfather. They both learn to rely on God as the story progresses. Although Pierre learns to be less selfish and to be self sacrificing, Angelique (who is already self sacrificing to the point of near starvation) continues to deny herself her heart’s desire. She is not assertive, but sweet and giving and always maintains her integrity. Clean romance.

Loved this engaging story!
Jody Hedlund has yet to write a novel that I haven't loved! She did not disappoint with her newest novel, crafting once again not only a well told story but one rich in history, depth, characters and emotions! From the beginning she captured my attention and held it steadily throughout the novel. Even when I had to put the book down, it still lingered on my mind and I could not wait to return to its' pages.Hedlund has a way of bringing History to life in her novels, she not only makes it interesting but engages your mind and emotions as you journey through a place and time period. Learning about Michilimackinac Island and the people held there during this time of unrest was fascinating. Her characters seem to live and breath, and garner a place in your heart. I so enjoyed Pierre and Angelique's story. Their struggles, failings, hopes, and desire to do what is right, all pull at you. They are characters you love and root for. Characters who manage to help you see yourself and examine truths, all the while being completely captivated by their story, as you hungrily devour the pages to see what will become of them! All I can say is that this novel is SO good, a definite keeper!

One For The Keeper Shelf!
This third book in Jody Hedlunds' Michigan Brides series is another for the keeper shelves.I love how Jody always bases her books on actual historical places and people. This time she takes us to America in 1814-15. There is a battle for Michilimackinac Island by the British and Americans. Enter fur trader Pierre Durant and Angelique MacKenzie. Angelique is engaged to Pierre's brother Jean, if he can ever come back to the now British controlled island. Why then, is she falling for Pierre? If she's not careful her hateful stepfather will sell her off to a high bidder as wife. Everyone is starving after a disastrous winter and Angelique is all that stands between Pierre and Jean's mother and starvation. As always, Jody Hedlund writes a most fascinating and riveting book. This one was on the shelves at Lifeway Christian for over a week before Amazon delivered mine. I wanted to buy it even though mine was coming!I've loved Jody's books since her first one and she is an author whose books I'll always buy without even knowing the synopsis~

Sooo good! I have read everything by Jody Hedlund and this is my favourite book she's written thus far. I loved everything about "Captured by love". The fast paced story line, the witty banter between Pierre and Angelique, and the romantic scenes were all superb! I couldn't put the book down yet didn't want it to end! In my opinion, Jody Hedlund keeps getting better and better!!
