My copy keeps saying the controller isn’t plugged in edit: it good game
I have two different controllers i’ve checked with and i’ve checked it with other games, but this game keeps saying i don’t have a controller plugged in and won’t start. If there’s a solution i’m just not getting, i’ll revise this review, i hate to do this, but i mean, technically i have a faulty product that doesn’t work.Edit: turns out i needed a ps2 specific controller, i had a knock off one and ps1 controller. Now that i’m playing the game i’m having a blast playing with my roommate.

Stuntman
I got this but couldn't play it because it's one of the few games the backwards compatible PS3's won't play properly. That's too bad too because I'm pretty sure this is a fun game.

Terrible game
This game is terrible. Let's start it here. You're a stuntman. You get to follow orders from a director who demands you do some of the most stupidly rigorous tasks to complete stunts. Some of the stunts are cool, but the game gets hard at about the 4th level. The first movie you shoot is like a tutorial. I rented this game, and never beat it. The first level of the first real movie in which your basically like dukes of hazards is tremendously hard. You have to do things in split seconds, and the game is so hard that it is frustrating. The game has no good points that I can think of. On one of the first missions I didn't barrel roll and I still won it. Another time I was suppose to hit a board and spin sideways near a garbage can, I barely did it and I won.But once you get to the dukes of hazards type movie, no. It's ridiculously stupid. There are cooling towers in random places falling on your car. Then you have to jump through a train at the start which is kinda luck. Anyways, the game could of gotten things right. For one, the game is fun when your not all stuntman. Right after you jump over a house, you get to cruise for like 30 seconds, which is fun considering the environment looks good. The game though doesn't lay out maps for you and doesn't give you any help. The director almost wants to make this thing as hard as possible because he never edits the movies(like normal directors and stunt coordinators do) and he never attempts to tell you where to go beforehand. You will be flipping left and right going up and down with no sence of direction. One second costs you the match...The game is terrible. There are some extras. Trailers or some crap. The map editor is terrible. You can put about 5 items in and that is it. I never figured out mechanical cars(I just decided to use cheats to unlock the editor stuff) and I never found out if there were any extra maps to unlock in the campaign. But this game offers nothing except frustration and crap. Honestly, I would like to see the creators beat their own game. If they could do that it would be great, beacause not many people can.

Be ready to practice your anger management skills.
I have played hundreds of different videogames and this one is by far the most frustrating. It is almost impossible to do some of the stunts because if you mess up in the beginning of a run, it will screw up the timing for stunts you have to perform later in the run (e.g., having to jump through a gap on a train moving across the tracks). I had to repeat some levels 60+ times before accomplishing the stunt and being able to move onto the next level. In my infinite rage that was spawned while playing this game I broke my controller. This is the only game I have ever gotten rid of after purchasing and I have about 70 PS2 games and 40 PS3 games. Do not get this game if you are hoping for something fun. However, if you are the kind of person that likes driving games and ridiculously difficult challenges then this game is for you! I will say that when you finally complete a stunt you have been attempting for a few hours, there is an overwhelming sense of relief that is immediately followed by an even greater frustration when you realize that the next level is even harder than the one you just beat. This game is not for people who tend to get angry at videogames.

patience WILL pay off!
I bought stuntman about a week after its release. I started it up and was immeadiately hooked on the adrenaline pumping scenes. With that said, this game is HARD! I've had it since the release and i am still two levels from completing it because i get so mad at it i can't play it for a month or so! The idea of the game is great, your a hollywood stunt driver, and you work on several fictious films. Although these films are not real, they have very obvious ties to films that are real (such as Indiana Jones and James Bond flicks.) Once you have finished the required stunts, you view a movie trailer, with your stunts spliced in, which is a great idea.As for the controls, they are something to get used to. Your average racing game will have X button to accelerate, Square button to brake and reverse, and the R1 button for handbrake. On stuntman this all the same, but the handbrake is moved to either the O, or Triangle button. Why this is neccasary, i have not the slightest idea, since the R1 button does nothing anyway. i also found it a bit bothersome that you were forced to work with the controls they gave you, there wasn't a certain number of predecided settings, let alone a custom configuration. As for the driving mechanics of the game, they also take some getting used to. Every car will handle a bit differently and since you are in and out of new cars throughout the entire game, it does take awhile to familiarize yourself with the controls. in general the cars glide a bit more often than in most games, which can be both a good and a bad thing. It can be good when trying to make quick U turns, and bad when trying to weave in and out of traffic, and both are equally used throughout the game. This is only a small problem, because after about a 1/2 hour of actually driving, you get the light, or sometimes rough touch that the vehicles require.Another very nice aspect of the game is the stunt builder. Through the stunt builder you can actually set up your own show in a big arena full of fans, complete with roll bars jumps and loops, and then wreak havoc on it, and ultimately destroy your vehicle. Through the career mode, you gain more and more complex toys to insert into your vitual destruction derby, from stacked barrels, to a giant loop.In conclusion, you must understand that this game is EXTREMELY difficult. You will find yourself restarting the scenes of the first movies anywhere from 75, to even 200 times before you have 100% completion. Once you reach the final movie, you may find yourself restarting 100 to 250 times, depending on how good a driver you are. The game wil definately test your patience, but once you finish a movie and see that commercial, there really is no better feeling because you know that you finally did it!P.S.Many people complain about the long load time everytime you have to restart a scene. To remedy this problem, simply open the disc tray once you power on PS2, and switch your system's speed, load times will be much faster!

Received the NTSC version and not the PAL version. Assumed it was PAL, as it was ordered from Amazon.co.uk and was shipped from Germany. Product description doesn't appear to specify whether it's PAL or NTSC.
