Inventions was formed by longtime friends, tourmates, and labelmates Matthew Cooper of Eluvium, and Mark T. Smith of Explosions In The Sky. There are plenty of talking points here: The fact that Cooper hasn t been in a "band" of any sort since he was a teenager; no member of Explosions In The Sky has released an album outside of the context of EITS since their inception in the late 90s; and, of course, this is a dream duo for anyone familiar with the unparalleled emotional resonance of Cooper and Smith s respective day jobs.

Excellent Ambience
I am a huge fan of Explosions in the Sky and Eluvium, and have been for years. So once I heard that Mark T. Smith of EITS and Matthew Cooper - the man behind the Eluvium moniker - were teaming up as a creative duo a la Hammock and Mountains, I was incredibly excited. Needless to say, I was not remotely disappointed once I received and listened to this record. When two artists with various records under their belt come together to create music, there is always the inherent danger that the new project will end up sounding too much like the accomplishments of one or both of the musicians. That is, thankfully, not the case with Invention's debut. You can hear the droning peacefulness of Eluvium and the crafted beauty of Explosions, but the combination of both elements results in a refreshing originality and entirely new feel.Simply put, if you are looking for an album that contains the beauty of both of these artists' work without rehashing it, then the Inventions debut is the album for you.

Fresh, Inventive
Two of my favorite ambient/post rock acts are Explosions in the Sky and Eluvium, so getting member of each together for this unique collaboration was a dream come true that did not disappoint!

Wonderful Invention!
Being a fan of both Explosions in the Sky and Eluvium I was thrilled to hear Mark and Matt made an album together and created a masterpiece. Inventions is an invention in several aspects not only is the music a new approach to their sounds but also how music is composed. I cant help but wonder "what if" Munaf Rayani also joined and what it would have sounded like. It is a must have if your a fan of the bands or if your new to their music.

I bought the CD. Lost it. Bought it again.
This is desert island disc level good. Great for roadtrips, ambient for making art, or just lying in the dark beside someone. Hook yourself up and thank me later.

slow-growing electronic soundscapes
Debut release from members of Eluvium & Explosions in the Sky—slow-growing electronic soundscapes filled with the kind of subtle post-Eno-ish majesty that demands total immersion. A surreal journey exploring the inner beauty of alternate realities.

Great electronic tunes
What a pleasant surprise this was. Great tunes without the banality of similar artists.
