Product Description French DJ/Artist St‚phane Pompougnac's fourth installment in this popular series featuring the best tracks heard at France's premiere club, bar and cafe. The Hotel Costes series serves as a ''tastemaker'' (read: trendsetting) for the rest of the world. His penchant for choosing the very best music for this series burns bright as he incorporates tracks on this outing from Gotan Project, Thunderball, Variety Lab, Doctor Rockit, Masaru Imada and others. Feel free to luxuriate with the sounds and splendor of the most relaxing place in Paris with the upper crust. The ''C“stes'' brand is forever linked with the ultimate in quality and is renowned with patrons as the home of luxury in Paris. After all, the overriding theme is ''all things in excess.'' .com Celebs like the Rolling Stones, Madonna, and Craig David enjoy hanging out at the legendary, exclusive Hôtel Costes in Paris, where the good life is lived with abandon. This fourth installment of the Costes music series highlights the slick and impressively alternative music selection played at this avant-garde establishment. Mixed by Parisian scenester Stéphane Pompougnac, the collection of super-ritzy, downtempo-flavored nuggets starts with the beautiful "London in the Rain" by Variety Jam and "I've Got a Cat" by the Method. There's plenty of uptempo vibes too, with Dublex Inc's "Tango Forte" and slow-burning deep-house missives like Slowsupreme's "Granada," Pompougnac's own "Closer to Julie," and Jon Cutler's classic "It's Yours." After raising temperatures with Imada's Brazilian vibes on "Playground Do Brazil," an Afro-Cuban sway on Major Boys' "Sous le Soleil," and Doctor Rockit's brand of seduction on "Café de Flore," Pompougnac brings us back down to floor level toward the end with Gotan Project's "Epoca," Shantel's sophisticated shuffle "Whatever," and Orbient's supine "Boarding." All in all, a great listen and a refreshingly different selection of tracks, many of which are tough to find domestically. --Paul Sullivan

4 and 9
If I had to choose my favorite CD from the Hotel Costes series, this would be the one. I hope I never see the day I grow tired of "London in the Rain". So far I've purchased 2, 4, 9, and "Best of". If you like what you hear on Hotel Costes Quatre (and your tastes tend toward eclectic meldings of lounge, Brazilian, French, acoustic, electronic, contempo jazz, a little hip hop, and whimsical vocals, all in a thoughtful and well-rendered mix that's just right), then be sure to also give vol. 9 a try (it's no Quatre, but it grew on me).

THE BEST BY FAR!!!
I'll admit that I'm a "late bloomer" to "Hotel Costes"--I didn't actually give the series a chance until I started reading the reviews and sampling certain volumes of the esteemed series. That being said, I bought Volume 4, aptly penned "Quatre", yesterday with the last few dollars I had in my pocket (money that was supposed to be alocated for gas until payday--HELP ME, SOMEONE!! It's obvious I have a major CD addiction.) Be that as it may, I am not at all disappointed in my purchase. In fact, in comparison to the other 2 Costes CDs I own (2 & 5), this one actually sounds the best. I thought it was going to be too "Latin" for me, but I was so wrong!! "Sous le Soleil" by The Major Boys with its laid-back Cuban rhythms is one of my favorite songs on "Quatre." Other noteworthy songs are those from phenom mixer Pompougnac himself, Dublex Inc., SlowSupreme, Thunderball and Orbient. The songs are perfectly mixed, melting into the other with the precision of a truly experienced DJ. The Costes series has become my all time favorite compilation CD set. Now, I must go and check my seat cushions for loose change or maybe I 'll go and trade in a few of my "whack" compilation CDs to get Volumes 1 & 3 of "Hotel Costes." There's obviously some subliminal messaging going on in those fancy-smancy Costes CD covers that's persuading me to go out and buy more of this stuff. Or perhaps it's just outstanding music and my avarice to want to hear more from Pompougnac.

My first Hôtel Costes album!
I am just playing this enchanting collection right now as I type this review. My dear friend, Anne-Marie, gave me this album a few days ago and I am only now having a close listen to this recording.I admired Stéphane Pompougnac's solo album, I liked the way he visits many musical styles and moods. When it came out, I promised myself that I would go back and examine his Hôtel Costes collections. Well, in a way, I am glad that I waited. I am a lot more familiar with modern dance forms these days and I am enjoying this 4th Hôtel Costes album because of that. Normally, I am much more attracted to Trance and Trip-Hop. However, the music on this recording is just wonderful. Touches of Jazz here, touches of Soul there, bits of Trip-Hop, a bit of Jungle Fever, tiny amounts of Ambience, moments of Techno, hints of Trance - all done with an incredible sense of French pizzazz and disrespect! It is my birthday in a couple of weeks and I am definitely going to play this CD at my party [if I have one!].BTW, aren't we lucky that someone invented the drum machine in the TwenCen!? What a brilliant idea!

Stéphane Pompougnac is so Delicious And Delightful!!!
To be honest the world don't need another chill out compilation, but this is the exception, this compilation is fantastic a so delicious, one more time Stéphane Pompougnac brought to us the best sound with specials treasures like the beautiful track "I've Got a Cat" by the Method and the Doctor Rockit's (a.k.a. Mathew Herbert) brand of seduction on "Café de Flore", Organ Night's Scott Grooves is deep-house track so cool and nice, but the best are in the next tracks... TOO MUCHHHHH SlowSupreme with the piece "Granada" is kind of "jazzy-groove-deep house" is great, the best track of all are "Closer To Julie - Stéphane Pompougnac" and the amazing track of "Jon Cutler - It's Yours", believe me this is the best compilation that you've ever heard, this is a masterpiece, this cd is so beautiful, mixed by the best Parisian Dj scene Stéphane Pompougnac, the sound and the package are great, VIVE LA FRANCE et Stéphane Pompougnac!
