Product Description TILES is a progressive modern rock band from Detroit, MI. Currently signed to Magna Carta Records in North America, TILES was formed in February 1993 and released "Fence the Clear," their second album, in 1997. The past seven years have seen the band develop and refine a sound that blends progressive rock overtones with an aggressive hard rock edge. Merged with lyrics of an "observational" or "humanistic" quality, TILES continues to cultivate a sound that demands more that passive listening. Ian Anderson of JETHRO TULL kindly offers his endorsement: "TILES are undoubtedly one of the brighter hopes for the musical millennium! They manage to combine the presentation skills and rich musicality of the Progressive Rock seventies with a hard-edged realism which perfectly fits the turn of the century." "Fence the Clear" was released in the spring of 1997 and overseas in Europe & Japan later that fall. Mixed by reknowned producer/engineer Terry Brown (Rush, Dream Theater, Fates Warning, Larry Gowan, Moist, & others), "FtC" shows TILES embracing their progressive roots with longer song structures, improvisation, and experimentation. The album was well-received by fans and reviews were postive with scores of 94/100 in Aardschok (Netherlands), 5/6 in SCREAM (Norway), again earning HM Magazine's "Pick of the Litter" award, and being named "Detroit's leading progressive rock band" by the Detroit Free Press. Review "'FtC' is tight progressive rock combined with intelligent lyrics and powerful vocals - immediately addicting..." -- Music Review, June 1997"...densely packed, linear guitar rock in a Rush-like vein with progressive filigree..." -- Progression, Spring 1997"Fans of Dream Theater will appreciate the commercial appeal of the songs and the quality vocals of Paul Rarick." -- HM Magazine, July/August 1997"In a genre often snubbed for its selfish flash, (Tiles) clicks into black belt grooves that rely more on clever interplay than on lonely chops-wielding." -- The Detroit Free Press, April 20, 1997"With 'FtC,' Tiles can now measure up against those of the very best progressive rock bands. Fans of Rush & Dream Theater will love this album." -- Aardschok , Netherlands, June 1997 See all Editorial Reviews
