So good, I had to leave a review!!!
I want to start by genuinely applauding the author John Davis for this book. I ordered this book hoping for guidance and a relatable experience. I got so much more than that. I am a female veteran that just transitioned out a few years ago. I really struggled through my undergrad and almost decided to just stop at that degree. Mr. Davis’ words made me feel like he was sitting with me. I felt as if I was understood and getting valuable tools to properly navigate my schooling, if I choose to further pursue it. I have read this book more than once and really taken my time digesting it all. I have taken notes and ensured that I highlighted pieces that I felt were extra valuable. I hope to use these tools when I return to school in November. This book isn’t just for veterans, this book is for anyone struggling to connect and succeed in college. This book will also be valuable for other transitions, such as entering the workforce after college. The first page alone locks you in and makes you feel comfortable. I look forward to telling others about it and seeing my friends and family succeed.

John's perspective and wisdom is 100% on point.
As a recently transitioned Army veteran, I've faced many challenges. Most of which were alone. John's story was very relatable for me and helped me to understand how years of service can help me overcome some of my own personal struggles. Highly recommend!

Engaging, relevant, and relatable.
As a former infantryman and college grad, who had to navigate the world and learn lessons the hard way, I wish this would've been available to me during my transition. John's story is very relatable, and his insight and advice is invaluable for the warrior trying to make the transition to civilian, and to be a productive member of society. When I made that transition 10 years ago I felt very alone, confused, and uncertain about the future, and whether or not I was making the right decision. This book will let you know you're not alone, and will help you navigate that river of doubt. The military teaches you how to persevere against the elements, your enemy, and chaos. John will teach you how to refocus that energy and determination for your new battle, college and life outside the military.

Very inspirational read.
I am not a veteran but wanted to check out the book because I am 30 going back to school. I always struggled with holding myself accountable with schooling, it gets hard I just quit. This book has definitely opened my eyes and has inspired me to continue following my path and finish up school. It was a great quick read and 10/10 will recommend my friends to read this book. Props to John Davis for putting himself out there and writing the book.

Good read for all not just Veterans.
Great for Veteran Students. I have deployed with the author John Davis and been on the same combat missions. For someone who has gone through the challenges of being a Veteran student-now completed both undergrad and graduate studies- this is an essential read for others.Battlehard John Davis! Rakkasan!

Must Read
Don't let the title fool you, this book is for anyone transitioning from one phase of life to another. I wish this book were available when I was LEAVING college and entering the workforce. There are so many lessons and examples that the author uses to get his message across. It does a great job of circling back to a specific situation that he had touched on previously and how that has/had helped him presently. He does a great job of showing why the reader can learn from his experiences and apply them to his or her self. I strongly recommend this book for everyone.

Must must must read for nontraditional students
I heard the author at a Harvard speaking event about issues student veterans face in the classroom. I bought the book and love the straightforward nature of the strategies. I would strongly recommend this book to any veteran, veteran organization or even nontraditional student to find academic success. It really opened my eyes to a ton of small improvements i could make that are adding up to big changes in my life. Looking forward to reading more of this authors.

A manual for the soldier
Well written. Easy to read and grammatically correct. More importantly, he gets the point across. The skills you learned in the military are very easily transferred to the learning environment if you try. And that’s all you really have to do. This book is a manual to do that. Enjoy.
