Instead, there are many pages devoted to subsidiary materials of questionable value--for example, an essay in which a friend of Raymond Carver writes that Carver's second wife had a blind friend just like the character in "Cathedral." So what? Those pages and others like them could have been devoted to printing more fiction in a book whose chief appeal is that it is a fiction anthology. You could buy four or five smaller anthologies for the price of this one.

I bought this for class, but the classics in it are amazing.I plan on rereading the short stories after I am done with this semester.

While I did need to buy this book because of an English class, I did enjoy so many of the stories that were in this book. If I would have known this collection was going to be so great, I would have purchased it for my own collection.

There are so many missing pages. I need this book for an English class and of course I open the book to read my first story and random pages are missing. Doesn’t look like they were ripped out, just not there. Not happy at all.
