If your heater shuts off for early for no reason but restarts if you turn off and back on, then this may fix that.
my pool heater is an 1999 model Hayward H400 ED1. Its got manual controls (no digital display), but has electronic ignition. It was shutting off the heat before my Spa was up to temperature. I removed the old ignitor and cleaned the rods but it still was shutting off - I had no problem with it igniting so the High Voltage spark worked fine. The ignitor also works as a flame rectification device - which means that it also is used to detect the flame and if there is no flame (or it thinks there isn't) then it shuts off the gas because you don't want a gas leak that could cause an explosion.I replaced the ignitor with the new model and it heats my spa to 98 degrees without shutting down early, so this new part took care of the problem. It does not come with a new screw or wing nut (to attach it), so make sure you save your old nuts when you remove the old part.I could not get my old screw to thread in the hole on the end, so either its not threaded on the end or my old screw was rusty enough (or the self-tapping wore off) to not go in well. I replaced the part after dark with a flashlight so difficult to tell.

Contrary to Heyward this part fixes the IF error code problem.
If you hear your heater fire with the normal "whoosh" and immediately turn off for 3 times and error IF (Ignition Failure) comes on this part will probably solve the problem. It has solved mine twice about 10 years apart. I am not 100% certain the error code was IF ten years ago but it was day before yesterday. Amazon shipped the ignitor immediately and I installed it today and have pool heat again. Heyward says your problem is likely NOT this part (the ignitor) but instead a problem in the gas supply. If you did not have gas you would not hear the "whoosh" of it lighting. So contrary to Heyward this part fixes the IF error code problem. I "think" Hayward's flow charts may be for heaters that have a seperate "flame detector" which this H series heater does not have. Flame detection is built into this ignitor. Since it only uses one wire it is not obvious but they sense ionization caused by the flame. Mine was incredibly rusted and hard to remove but my son got it off for me. Since it depends on a good electrical connection to the sheet metal for a ground be sure to sand off the rust before installing it. Also when inserting it tilt it to the left before pushing it all the way in to reach the burner. Good luck!

Good ignitor, no hardware included
It works like a charm. Heater fired up on first try. Installation is relatively easy but I had to cut the nut off of the old bracket assembly as it had rusted badly. Unfortunately the new bracket did not come with a new nut for the mounting stud.. but I took one off of the tip and used it for the stud. Would have been nice to have come with new hardware.

The Heat is ON!
We have an 18-year-old Hayward H200ED1. The heater symptom was that the gas would shut off a few seconds after the burner was lit. This part fixed the problem. When I searched for troubleshooting tips I found a number of helpful videos on youtube about cleaning the gas jets and burner tubes, you can also download a manual from Hayward that is full of info and tips. These old Hayward heaters are surprisingly well made and were designed for fast servicing. We live in MN and the heater has never been covered in the offseason (9-months per year) and maybe cleaned inside once. By removing the gas jets and burner I was able to really vacuum out the inside, which was full of flaky rust and debris from a grate that's below the burner. I was surprised at how solid the stainless burner tubes after were after 18 years -Hayward must use quality stainless to last this long - wish I could say the same for my gas grills. :) The burner tubes have very fine holes for the gas and I used 320-grit sand paper and a small brass wire brush to clean them. After the heater fired up I slid a hand mirror under the burner and could see that the flame looked like what the manual described. I also had to replace a set of heat sensors because I accidentally pulled a terminal (connector) out of one sensor trying to remove the burner for cleaning - be careful, these can be rusty. Of course the pool service companies have been telling me the heater is shot for 10 years now and want me to spend $2000 for a new one. After learning about how the heater works I think I can keep it running for a few more years. A couple of weeks ago I replaced the pool pump I bought from Amazon for $220 and the repair only took about 90 minutes total. I'm guessing I saved $1000 by doing these 2 repairs myself. Good Luck to you.

Easy fix for a heater that does not light
My Hayward H250ED2 pool heater required multiple ignition attempts. If I was not manually cycling the on/off control, the unit displayed IF (ignition Failure). The gas would light then the gas valve clicked off repeatedly. The HAXIGN1931 electronic igniter completely solved the problem. Installation was easy, but I had to go to he hardware store to buy a nut for the vertical stud because the original was rusted and broke off with the original part. It would be helpful if Hayward included a nut to use in installing the part. The installation was about 20 minutes and required that the burner orifice pipe be loosened to access the nut on the vertical stud. With the repair completed the heater ignites first time every time.

Easy to install
Good price for this part. I installed it myself. Started right up. Don't need the pool heater now in Florida but I use the heat at night for the spa. Works great.
