Revised II: Magic carpet ride, disappointing durability, great customer service
I put a pair of 700-25c Rubino Pro Speed on my 2006 Klein road bike and they are WONDERFUL. I've only done a couple of rides, so I cannot attest to puncture resistance or longevity, but in terms of ride quality they are superb! Rolling resistance is lower than the tires they replaced. The 220 TPI casing probably contributes to this and will likely make them ride better than the "Control" version. Even pumped to 125 PSI, ride quality is supple and non-jarring over bumps and seams. The tires *are* difficult to install; opposite side bead must be carefully positioned at the lowest spot in the rim when stretching the last bit over the rim. I had to resort to a tire lever to carefully move it over the lip. Those with crushing handshakes and Schwarzenegger grip strength might be able to do it by hand.This is my second set of Rubino Pros, my first of the Pro IV Speed. Ride quality and value for money make these tires attractive.Update 2024-05: I've ridden these tires about 450 miles and I'm disappointed to see the rubber starting to separate and delaminate from the casings. I don't overinflate - typically running 110-115 PSI. The tire is rated higher. I don't expect a performance tire to last forever but I also don't expect it to develop circumferential cracking and having the rubber separate after 6-7 months of leisurely use. I'm lowering the rating from 5 stars to 3 based on durability.Update again: after posting the photos and update above, I contacted Vittoria directly. They responded in one day, reviewed my situation, and are sending new tires. Maybe it was just something with the specific tires or the batch they came from. In any case, Vittoria goes back to the top of my "favorite tires" list.
