Old Brown Glue is fresh “hot” hide glue in a bottle. The liquid glue is made from hydrolyzed collagen and urea in small batches (literally made to order) with a one-year shelf life, which can be extended if kept in a refrigerator. To make “hot” glue, the manufacturer recommends heating the glue by putting it in the sunlight or a warm water bath for a few minutes, and we concur. This completely organic, nontoxic formula has a 30-minute open time and requires 24 hours to dry completely.

You need to keep this glue WARM for it to flow.
I love the product, and its strength, but working with it is about the same as hide glue in a pot, except it's pre-mixed (which is a major benefit!)I recommend it, but this stuff really gels up when it cools down, within about 15 seconds in my experience. So you need to find some sort of heating system for your space. Gel does not mean unworkable. THere's just a learning curve, and I will update this review once I perform a few more glue-ups.

I love using this product for chairs
I love using this product for chairs. This way when something eventually breaks, because chairs are one of the most abused things in your home, its easy to reverse the glue, make the repair, and reassemble the part. Just make sure to put it in a hot water bath before using if the ambient temp is cooler.

If strength is critical, stay with titebond.
Properly prepared glue joint ended up not being as strong as the wood. However, I also purchased this to be able to prep surfaces for crackle paint and it does do that well.

Good for guitars
This worked great for guitar repairs. Fixed a broken Gibson Les Paul headstock and other fixes as well. Have to heat it up to work right. Enough in this bottle to last a long time.

A must for the avid woodworker...
Great open time and if you ever need to reverse a joint, it’s easy to do. Worth the penny for purchase if you are an avid woodworker.

Increased open work time
I use Old Brown Glue for my furniture assembly. I pour the amount I think I need into a glue pot and warm it over a small electric burner. The warmed glue allows me more time than normal wood glues to fully assemble the joints before it sets. I no longer have to soak hyde glue pellets in water before heating the glue. If I have poured too much, I leave it in the glue pot and reheat it the next time I need it. It will re-liquify when reheated.

Great glue!
This glue is very good. The long open time makes complicated glue ups a cinch. Cleans up superbly and has all the other benefits of hide glue. I wish they would add a bit more urea though so it was liquid at ~64F, a typical shop temperature. I always have to put it in a cup of warm water in the winte.

A great all-around glue.
I build guitars, and although I have not used this yet in any of my complete builds, I would not hesitate to do so after using it for various guitar and furniture repair projects.
