Warped: An Engaging Guide to the Never-Aired 8th Season (Star Trek: The Next Generation)

Works better than expected
I was Inn the middle of writing a really bad review of this book when I was forced to pick it up again for the review. I enjoyed the original Twitter page so much I actually preordered this. I would suggest checking out the twitter page to decide if this is something that would appeal to you. I also have to admit that even here the jokes can be very hit or miss, in fact the first 'episode' in this book was so unfunny after reading it I put the book down for months only to randomly open it later to a page that had me laugh out loud.Like with the twiiter summaries, the shorter jokes work best. Often the long summaries of each episodes main plot is often the weakest stuff (with the B plot summaries working better). At the same time the length of the book is impressive and it's clear that a large amount of time went into writing this. Printed on high quality glossy pages with a large number of color illustrations, they inside feels like it would be more at home in a large hardcover format yet it's priced just like any other paperback.Extra points for having this be a officially licensed Star Trek book when as a parody it didn't need to be; there a quite a few low quality trek based parody books but this isn't one of them

Grew up watching The Next Generation and it's great
This thing is fun times from start to finish. It gives the impression of being a real behind the scenes book without belaboring the format. The illustrations are high quality as is the book's construction. I can't recommend getting this thing enough.

Hilarious
One of the funniest and funnest reads of all time, I really wish there were more of these. Perhaps DS9, VOY, and ENT should all get a crack at a lost season?

A good expansion of a fantastic idea
I preordered this book based on the absolutely brilliant @TNG_S8 twitter account (sample post: "Picard's production of MacBeth becomes far too real. Having torn apart the warp core, Geordi now thinks the weird noise is coming from Data."). It perfectly captures the corniness and silliness underlying the Star Trek: The Next Generation mythos, presenting scenarios that are just close enough to plausible that they're impossible not to play out in your head. The book loses a little in the transition for 140 characters to hundreds of words per episode, but not as much as you think. The humor is a bit broader and a little less pointed, but it's still really funny (especially in descriptions of the b-plots), and very much true to the characters. McMahan has a clear affection for these fictional people, and his obsession with Riker's smarmy decency and full, rich beard makes for great reading.

"ST:TNG–Warped" exceeds low expectations, rewards on two levels
"Warped" exceeded expectations because they were low to begin with.I still remember the last time a Twitter feed was used as the basis for a form of popular entertainment–namely, "Bleep My Dad Says," which "inspired" the mercifully short-lived CBS sitcom starring William Shatner. Still, I purchased "Warped" in hopes actual humor might be found here–and there is.It functions on two levels–as a parody of Simon and Schuster's previously published "Trek" guidebooks like "The Star Trek Compendium," and "The Star Trek: The Next Generation Companion," as well as a amusing commentary on the creative deterioration that "ST:TNG" experienced during its actual final season, when it seemed the creators had run out of stories to tell and things to say about Captain Picard and crew–a decline that the author notes continued into the Next Generation crew's film era."Warped" is highly recommended.

All trekkie fans will appreciate this!!!
Excellent! I was a big fan of Mike McMahan's twitter series (I used to sit at my desk at work and annoy everyone with my laughing) and I was super stoked to hear that a publisher picked it up for print. He's done an incredible job with "Warped" and I'm still laughing. I had a feeling I would love this book so I picked up a few for Christmas gifts for all my other trekkie fans. This is a must for fans!! I really loved the addition of great illustrations too!

Beyond TNG
Now this is a book of its time, a few years ago something like this may have done the fanfic rounds but in the age of social media the popularity via twitter led us to this publication and we should all be grateful. Now you may have to have been a fan of The Next Generation to get the most out of the book or at least a fan of Star Trek (concept can fit any of the series after all) and while TNG was never my favourite I loyalled watched the show every week and own the boxset. The idea that an eighth season was ordered but everyone on the creative side wanted nothing to do with it and led us to these episodes was inspired and they are all fun, bizarre and totally out there but remain true to the traits of the characters and that is why it all works.Looking for something for a Star Trek fan for christmas or birthday, here you go but I treated myself and loved every page.

Pretty funny stuff
Pretty funny stuff, lots of LOL moments. The absurdity reaches peak level fairly quickly so it's hard to reach too much at once, but I am enjoying it.
