Maine Coon hip dysplasia help
UPDATE May 6, 2021Floki is doing amazingly well. I have continued giving him this collagen powder since we first started it in November 2020. I give him just 1/4 tsp a day, in his morning meal, mixed with canned food. I give a sprinkle to his brother Jax (orange and white Coon) just for good measure. These two cats tear around the house at top speed, leaping, tumbling, and climbing. Seriously, you would never guess that Floki (darker of the two) has hip dysplasia. This has been miraculous for him/us and we currently have no plans for the surgery. I cannot imagine cutting part of his bone off when he's doing so well. If things change, well, we'll do what we need to.Anyhow, just wanted to say that we are very pleased with how well this has worked out for a Maine Coon and hope that he's always this energetic and active.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Our just-turned-2yrs Maine Coon, Floki, started limping and crying out when he moved to get up from laying down several weeks ago. A trip to the vet and x-rays revealed hip dysplasia which the breeder screens for but somehow our boy has it. It's been heart breaking to see this young, very vibrant, active cat start to act and walk more like an old man cat. The vet recommended glucosamine chews which we bought from them. Floki won't eat them though so I have to chop them up to put in his food. Within a couple days of that appointment I started researching and ended up ordering this Totally Wags Collagen for Cats supplement. I thought it couldn't hurt to try and I have a couple friends who said that collagen powder (not this brand) helped their dogs with the same condition, they walked better.Floki has been eating this powder mixed into his canned food for a little over 3 weeks and in the last week he has started walking almost normal much of the time and rarely cries out with pain. We also have a 5 month old Maine Coon kitten and he's high energy. He and Floki are back to running full speed around the house, leaping, climbing and jumping. We do try to limit Floki when he gets going too hard so that he doesn't injure himself because the condition is still there, it can't be fixed except with surgery. But the fact that he is back to being his bright active self is so amazing. We are really happy. Can I claim with absolute assurance that the collagen powder is the reason for this turn around? No, I really cannot say that for sure. It's possible that he's just in a up-cycle with this condition. But, we do believe that the collagen powder has made this difference. Time will tell and I will try to remember to add to this review down the road to report about how he's doing.I'm a real skeptic in general and I was skeptical that this powder (or any collagen powder) could help but if your cat has some condition where this might help, it cannot hurt to try. I've been giving it to our MC kitten too even though he doesn't have any problems. Hopefully starting him young will help keep him moving like a well-oiled machine! The package calls for 1/2 teaspoon for cats over 12lbs, and Floki is well over that weight. I started out giving him 1/8 tsp to ease him into it for about a week. Ditto for Jax (kitten). Jax burped once but otherwise I have not observed any digestive issues. I moved Floki up to a 1/4 tsp and just this week a heaping 1/4 tsp as we work our way up to 1/2 tsp for him. So if this powder is the source of his turnaround, even the half dose for his weight class is helping. These cats are big eaters, I feed them three times a day (canned food) and they have grain-free dry food to snack on. First thing in the morning I split a can between their dishes, add just a dribble of warm water and add their respective doses of collagen powder then I mix it in good. The water helps moisten the powder quickly so that hopefully it's not grainy when they eat it. These boys lick their bowls clean! I mean, they used to do that now and then but they must like the collagen powder because they do it all the time now.I will start giving Floki his second 1/4 tsp at his third feeding in the evening soon rather than giving him the full 1/2 tsp in the morning. Hopefully this will avoid any tummy upset though they both seem to be handling it just fine without any noticeable digestive side effects.Nothing is gong to cure dysplasia and Floki will eventually have surgery within the next few months to take advantage of his youth and good muscles because once they remove the ball at the top of the femur, it is the muscles and tendons that will keep the leg aligned wit the hip properly. Waiting until he's older means that his current strength will decline, especially if this condition worsens, and that means his benefit from the surgery may not be as great. We'll see what the specialist recommends as far as timing though. In the meantime, I'm so grateful for whatever it is that took Floki's pain away and is allowing him to be a full-on active cat again. No more sad looks and just laying curled up and watching Jax play, he's back to playing too. I believe it's the collagen.BTW, we have not been using the glucosamine after chopping it up into his food 2 or 3 times. I wanted to focus on the collage to see if it helped so that I'd know which supplement worked best. I will be adding the glucosamine though since the vet recommended it and then will monitor to see if I think it's helping more. If not, I'm not sure there's a reason to keep using it as long as we keep doing well with the collagen.I'm sure people's experiences with supplements vary, but I think this is worth a try. I added a few pics of Floki and a couple of his brother Jax because, yes, I take way too many cat pictures! Haha!

Picky Cat loves this!
I actually have 2 Siberian cats, but the one pictured is pretty picky about her food. We started adding a little of this collagen to their canned food last week. They both love it and actually lick their bowls clean...not always the case in the past with our picky girl, Cricket. So that makes me happy. I am glad to see them enjoy their food and know that it is helping their coats and their joints. I'm noticing less fur clumps too...Thanks, Totally Wags!

This is AMAZING!!!!!!
I purchased this collagen powder for my 17 year old kitty. She has been experiencing some arthritis in her hips and I am sure other locations as well. She was sleeping more and less energetic since she was uncomfortable. I have been giving her Cosequin for a couple of years now, but decided she needed something else to ease her discomfort and improve her overall health. Well, let me tell you...... this WORKS!! It has only been 2 weeks and she is a different kitty. She is more active, jumping onto our bed, purring more and has been more sociable and playful. I honestly cannot get over the change this colllagen powder has made in her health. THANK YOU so very much to this company for making this product and helping our furry friends have a better quality of life.Oh and my cat loves the taste. I mix it in her wet food and she eats it all.I had to write a review and say Thank you! ❤️

Picky old cat eats it without issue
I purchased this product for my 17 year old cat who has arthritis. He has not been on the product long enough to truly see how effective it is, but he's had no ill effects from consuming it. I sprinkle it on his wet food and he eats it without issue. I do add a little extra water to the food as adding the gelatin makes it a thicker consistency.

This works!
The first shipment i got was damaged and had leaked all over the inside of the box, and other items in my order. The seller was so helpful! They sent me another, right away.My cats must like the taste. They definitely are eating it. I just put some dry on their food and mix it up well. The most noticeable difference is their skin and coats. One had dry skin(it was winter), and the other had almost coarse/wiry fur. Now she's fluffy and soft.I will definitely purchase more!
