Analysis of the Sucesses and Failures of the 1848 Revolutions in Germany and France
This is Volume 11 of the 50-volume set of the Collected Works of Karl Marx and Frederick Engels. As a "collected works" this set is an attempt to publish in chronological order every single article, letter and memorandum that was ever written by either Marx or Engels in their lifetimes.Among the articles contained in Volume 11 are two famous and major works. The first is "The Eighteenth Brumaire of Lois Bonaparte" (1852) written by Marx. This is a critique of the usurpation of power in France following the revolutionary upsurge of 1848 and 1849. The second important article contained in Volume 11 is "Revolution and Counter-Revolution in Germany" written by Engels. In this article, Engels examines the economic basis of the Revolution of 1848 and 1849 in Germany and then shows the reasons for the defeat of that Revolution.
