Great first fishing pole for my daughter!
It's perfect for my 9 year old daughter. It's lightweight and very durable. Plus she loves the design of it.

Amazing Value
This is really a fine product. Quality construction; a smaller version of an adult rod and reel. I think Shakespeare must be selling this as a loss-leader to get kids into fishing. If so, fine by me. Took my granddaughter out fishing today and it all worked perfectly; she even caught fish.

Not bad for $12..
The rod itself is amazing! Had my line get snagged in some weeds and this little guy did not disappoint. I already caught a few decent sized fish. The reel isn't that great. I ended up buying a different reel. And swapped out the line. But this is the perfect combo for a beginner or a child. The blue is beautiful btw.

My Fun Rod ;)
This is now my "fun rod" for when I get bored, which really is just for sabiki when we aren't getting any bites. My husband bought me this as a starter rod incase I wasn't sure about being interested in fishing. I loved it so he got me a better rod. But this rod works great!I used this to fish in LI and actually caught some fish with it. They weren't big keepers (obviously) but it worked and was fun. The lightness makes it very easy to feel all the little nibbles. There was a few times I actually lost the whole line but that just means the fish is too big for this baby rod. We changed the line out to have a higher test, as well as the reel too. We use this for sabiki and I have caught many shad's. I actually almost caught 2 blues with this, the fish just fell off the tiny hook....I think this rod, because it's so sensitive, and I love the pink made me hooked into fishing. In the meantime, we're using this as a sabiki rod. Once our daughter is older this will be her rod to start her into fishing.

Is this made with carbon fiber?? :0
For the price, I'd say it's well worth it. I can't speak on behalf of anyone here who got a faulty rod/reel, but it's a great starter and looks spectacular with what I think might be carbon fiber in the rod. If it isn't, they did a great job at mocking it.

Great pole!
Awesome fishing pole for my 7 year old, who just started fishing this summer. Perfect size for him. He has already caught a number of sunfish and is setting his sights on some trout and bass this fall. Casts smoothly, easy to use for a lefty because you can swivel the reel around to suit a lefty or a righty. Would def purchase again--enjoying Shakespeare's products!

Great Rod, Terrible Reel
I agree with the other reviews, this set has a terrible reel that would annoy you. The reel kept eating and tangling my line, making it impossible to cast. I ended up losing the entire reel and line because they fell into a bed of rocks when I attempted to detangle/took out the line from the reel's core. I bought a better reel the next day and it has been working great ever since, no casting or tangling issue. I strongly recommend switching the reel. There are cheap reels out there with much better quality.

rod is so-so, reel is garbage
I needed a medium setup, tried this. the reel is in the trash already and the rod is mediocre at best. Put the money toward something better, this wasn't worth it. If you're a beginner, you'll be disappointed as well.
