Works well for vlogging and b-roll
I bought this specifically to get smooth b-roll for my videos when I didn't want to carry around bigger cameras.I was expecting quality like my Insta360 One X, which I honestly think sucks and is just barely usable in bright lighting conditions. I was very surprised as how good the video quality was.I knew the built-in mic would essentially be worthless like they are on all these mini gimbal cams for professional work, but it's nice you can use an external mic via bluetooth through your phone to record. Or just record separate audio on your phone and sync in post. One thing to keep in mind is that I don't see a way to manually control shutter speed etc, so it automatically brightens/darkens things when filming. Perhaps I'm missing something, or it'll come in a firmware update, since I know they are constantly working on that. The touch screen makes it pretty easy to switch modes, and having 4K60 is a big upside to get extra smooth footage. It was hard to figure out how the external case went back on at first, but when you shut the gimbal off, the head realigns to the correct position to make it easy to slide the top on and protect everything.Being able to turn the lens vertically for things like Instagram stories is a great feature too.I wouldn't recommend this for good audio, or as a replacement for a real camera with either image stabilization or a larger gimbal, but if you plan to use it for basic b-roll when you don't want to carry your equipment with you, I think it's a good option.

Great design, but no flat profile and couldn't connect to iPhone X.
After updating iOS and VMate firmware, I couldn't connect to my iPhone X. I kept getting Error C. Thus, I was not able to use it at all in the way I wanted to.

Convenient operation, advanced functions, high cost performance
The media could not be loaded. Vmate fully utilizes the basic features of the pocket camera, which is easy to use and full-featured. It can also deeply dig into various fancy games, integrate live broadcast and other operations, and the speed of video importing into mobile phones is also very fast. It is a good replacement for my previous shooting equipment. Highly recommended!

Non of it works.
The media could not be loaded. I got the camera and wanted to test it out with the app but it doesn't connect to the app and I thought maybe it was because it wasn't fully charged. But once I charged it the camera would turn on but only face one way. I tried to use the function on the camera to reset the camera but it just went back to the side.

Looks elsewhere! This camera breaks easily!
The camera when it works is fine. It is pretty simple to use. However, the quality is terrible. When I first got it, the camera could not read my SD cards (one was Samsung). I had to switch to another one (Sandisk) for it to reliably read. Now after 4 months of use, the camera will not charge using the USB cord. Technical support is also not great. When I reached out about the battery, they asked me to send them a video. Not sure what a video is gonna show them? That I’m actually plugging in the camera? For the same price, I suggest looking elsewhere!

Unique Features | Great Video/Not Great for Vlogging
I’ve been able to compare this to my Fimi Palm and the DJI Osmo Pocket as well. I made a detailed video comparison to the Fimi Palm on YouTube (Paul Antill - Fimi Palm vs Vmate) in which I share the pros and cons of each and explain which camera performs best for certain styles of video making. In quick sum, the VMate is best for when you’re operating the camera in conjunction with the Smartphone App. It gives you lots of unique features that the Fimi lacks. That said, the Fimi is better for its ease of use and quick setup times.Pros:- Focus Adjustment - Depth of field. Gives you a more “pro” and artistic look at times.- Autofocus is pretty quick and accurate.- Object tracking (only within App). When it works well, you can easily track objects your want to film.- Live streaming to social media- App is always getting updates and new/improved features- The case has a built in phone holder that is good when you want to operate the camera with your phone.Cons:- On camera controls & menus are difficult to use and change- No physical buttons to control the gimbal position. Touch screen controls are slow and tricky to use- Object tracking only works via the App, not on the camera itself- No advanced video settings without the App.- Narrow field of view is not great for vlogging- Internal mic isn’t great- The case is clunky and weird to put on. It’s in 2 pieces and isn’t intuitive to use.Final Thoughts:The VMate works best when you want to control the camera via the smartphone as opposed to vlogging or needing a quick camera you can quickly get a shot with. It gives you decent controls via the App, but on its own, it falls short due to its clunky controls and lack of internal settings. If you want to film things with and not yourself and have the time and preference to always use your phone, you can get some decent results. If instead you want to primarily film yourself, or want a better all-around and easier to use camera, the Fimi Palm is the better choice.
