This torch is very clever, the Reactive mode is amazing. I can use around my house, as you get nearer walls it dims, corridors open up and it brightens, stare into the dark out the back door and full power, back to your hand and immediately low enough to read comfortably by, with no glare.Switch is easy to use, slide to lock is useful, just be careful just to slide / pull with your fingernail, otherwise you press and change mode.User interface is straight forward, press to turn on, (it’s likely started in ‘Reactive’ mode, only 1 LED will be lit) starts in low, two more presses through medium & high on wide LED, 4th press is then spot LED only, 5th press off. When off, hold for red LED. When using Red LED, you can hold (2 seconds) for back to Reactive mode. To change to ‘Standard’ mode (fixed output, no dimming), when in Reactive Mode, hold for 2 seconds both LED’s are on (don’t look straight at them!), it’s in ‘Standard ‘Mode, then 1 press through each of low/medium/high on both wide and spot LED’s, 4th press is then spot LED only, then off.I’ve had quite a few headtorches, early incandescent Petzls, Energiser models, Black Diamond Icon’s, Princeton Tec Apex, Fenix HL30, my favourites being the BD’s Spot and Cosmo and Petzls, I love the BD’s variable output, but their rechargeable offerings aren’t currently what I am looking for, the Petzl Li-Ion rechargeable’s are great. I have 3 Petzl Actik Cores (beautifully simple UI, low/med/high off, hold for red) and a Petzl Pixa 3R (beautiful design, but big, cumbersome and not very bright), this is used when I know its going to be getting wet. This one is IPX4, so water spray / rain likely fine.This isn’t cheap, if you don’t need Reactive consider the Actik Core, they have a 450 Lumen version and its very good.

I walk my dog in the early hours of the morning across fields and through woods. Using a hand torch was ok but generally can put you off balance when negotiating difficult terrain.This Petzl Swif RL Pro light has the right combination of being super bright and weighing very little. It's ideal for those early morning walks. The max brightness setting is excellent. Was particularly useful during those storms a week ago.Easy to use and with a switch lock I'd recommend it. The battery life in full output is excellent and the flood setting is nicely bright. It puts some hand torches to shame.
