Great show with great songs!
I saw the musical and loved it so bought the soundtrack. It's a fun show! I might be one of the last people left to buy cd's but I listen to it a lot.

Henry had a big pair, but he can't beat six Queens.
This is one of the best musical scores I have heard in a very long time. No, it isn't the usual musical - it's more of a cross between Tommy and a Glee live performance. And even that doesn't do it justice. The six wives of Henry VIII of England give us their side of the story - and they don't pull any punches. The language is clean, strictly speaking, but the innuendo is wonderful. The music runs a broad range - sick dance beats, anthems, love songs and more than one that gets me teary eyed. The queens do raise an conundrum - they tell their side of the story, but can that really change either the outcomes or the way the stories are remembered? How they solve that one is an honest solution, it seems to me. And brings both the show and the album to a rousing conclusion. While the recording is solid and worth your time, do consider seeing the show. It's playing at Chicago Shakespeare. In the interests of full disclosure, I was in Chicago for six days last week. I saw the show three times. It got better each time. One last point - I'm 70 years old. I was so into this experience that it wasn't too loud; nor was the lighting too much. See the show if you can!

Love this musical. Listened to it before seeing it. My sister borrowed it and never returned it so I bought another one, of course.

Addictive but lacking
I do have some qualms with this musical but the music is catchy and the ladies sing it with feeling that shows they are invested in these characters. In some aspects I suspect the songs reflect the singers that inspired each more than the wives they're meant to represent - and I certainly felt I appreciated it more with that context - but for such a short musical you can only expect so much. Ideally I'd like each of these ladies to have more than one song and for them not to each be obsessed with their relationship status; several of them overlap and we don't really get to hear that in the music (though several of them allude to Henry sleeping around and Anne mentions Katherine though not by name). For a musical that asserts that each woman is taking the narrative back and telling her own story - they really don't. I wish more of the songs turned out like Catherine Parr's where she talks about her other achievements (though it devolves into a group sing towards the end in a way the other's don't, further undercutting a narrative already largely taken up by her relationships). I feel like we don't get a good look at these women's characters for who they are when they're not in a relationship, but with each of them being trapped in one song that must touch on their marriage to Henry there's not a lot of wiggle room to hear about their lives as a whole. (I don't know how much info is available on each either, but I recall a history major friend of mine having a rather thick book on them which I intend to look up and read later.) For all that it's very engaging and makes me want to learn more about the actual historical women who inspired it. Also it's so catchy that I find myself listening to it again and again.

Great Musical with wacky premise.
This is a musical featuring the Six Wives of Henry VIII as a pop girl group, like Fifth Harmony or the Spice Girls, singing about their lives and hard times with Henry. It is really fun.

My GOD!
