Product Description The sequel to the action-comedy hit RED, which reunites our team of retired CIA operatives as they use their old-school style to take on a new set of enemies all across Europe. desertcart.com A very safe sequel bet with a cast of friendly, recognizable, and bankable stars, RED 2 is a breezy romp of global espionage and superhero superspies where the wealth of violence is played for laughs and the sly grins stay firmly planted on the faces of everyone involved. As fans of 2010's RED will fondly remember, the hero characters are from the AARP generation, which is also what drives the primary conceptual joke and defines the title acronym: Retired, Extremely Dangerous. In round two, former secret agent Frank Moses (Bruce Willis) is drawn out of retirement (again) by his former cohort Marvin (John Malkovich, acting Malkovich-crazy and loving it) to service a plot that involves a Cold War-era nuclear bomb hidden in Russia and the international effort to retrieve it. Frank is now romantically partnered with RED's sweet Sarah (Mary-Louise Parker, also a comic delight), who wants to follow him into the fray and turns out to be pretty good at the dangerous game of spycraft. Also returning from not really being retired are the icy MI-6 assassin Victoria (Helen Mirren) and the lusty Russian spy chief Ivan (Brian Cox). Their priceless scene together captures a bucolic picnic where automatic weapons and silk stockings are the main course. New to this edition is Katja (Catherine Zeta-Jones), Ivan's best operative and a former flame of Frank, and Han Cho Bai (Byung-hun Lee), a Korean hit man on Frank's list partly because he's been ordered to kill him, but mostly because he's mad that Frank stole his private jet. Everyone's motives are purposely muddled, but they all put aside personal grudges and professional kill orders to join forces against the doomsday device. It was created and hidden by a batty professor who's been locked away in a London psychiatric hospital for almost 40 years. Fortunately this caricature is played by Anthony Hopkins, who brings all the acting tics and crazy-old-British-guy mannerisms he can as both hero and villain. The mechanics of story don't much matter when the purpose is zingy one-liners and the comic timing is spot on. There's a ton of bloodless violence--most of which is also played for laughs--and a menacing American agent played by Neal McDonough who seems to be the only humorless one in the whole bunch. He's also the only truly scary one, which does not bode well for his character. All the leads are given their own scene-stealing moments, with each playing according to their strengths (and probably for a nice "what the heck?" paycheck). The physical and verbal interplay among them cascades trippingly off the tongue in snappy dialogue and bits of business that seem effortless for these pros. Helen Mirren wears diamonds and fur while wielding a grenade launcher; John Malkovich makes the most lovable psychopath ever; Anthony Hopkins is both befuddled and conniving; and Bruce Willis makes violent screwball comedy look easy, especially with the impeccable help of Mary-Louise Parker. The RED franchise is a nice crossover success for Hollywood, with a built-in audience of the over-50 set, and the core youth demographic happy to watch grandma- and grandpa-types blow up and shoot things to their hearts' content. --Ted Fry Review: great product. Would buy again. - Love both films! Review: Fun, Blood-free Spy Farce - I am not a big fan of violent movies, and avoid them, ordinarily. This one is not gory, despite all the killings. There is no blood! It has an all-star cast, the plot is interesting, the characters are well-acted, and the action moves along. The best part of RED and RED2 is the humor in them. There are some great lines, all delivered deadpan, and a lot of comic relief throughout. I really appreciate that there are almost as many women with important roles as there are men. The scenarios are highly improbable, however. How do they get money without being discovered and tracked? How do they get from country to country without being stopped? How do they concoct a precise and complicated plan in minutes? Things get blown up with barely anyone noticing, and gun fights take place in public with hardly a blip. Maybe that's why I can watch this without having nightmares, later. It's just pure fun.

Great Action Flick
When the first RED came out, I loved it. Typically, sequels always struggle to keep up with the original... Unless we're talking about The Empire Strikes Back...... and RED 2. OK, it's not Academy Award material... But this cast is superb and just plain fun to watch. The story is not as original as its predecessor but it kept me interested and has some great unexpected twists. The blend of action, comedy and pacing are solid and kept me engaged throughout the entire movie. This one was much funnier than the first RED but maintained the edgy feel that I enjoyed in the original. THE BOTTOM LINE: Grab your refreshment of choice, load a bowl with popcorn and enjoy the ride! Definitely worth the purchase as you'll want to watch these enjoyable characters over and over again!

Ernest Borgnine's bit parts added to that story line nicely.
Excellent ensemble of actors. Action & tongue in cheek humor.

A movie that entertains you with a combination of humor and action.
I have seen both Red #1 and #2 at the movies and liked both of them so much that I have purchased them when they came out on DVD. I liked Reds 2 even more than Reds 1. This movie can be considered both a comedy and an action film combination and also has a fantastic cast. They include: Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Mary-Louis Parker, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Byung Lee, Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren. There is nothing like a combination kind of movie which has both humor and action. RED means “Retired-Extremely-Dangerous.” In this DVD Frank Moses (Bruce Willis) gets his old CIA black-ops group together again to search for a portable nuclear device. In their quest they run up against a whole group of bad people such as terrorists, assassins and of course the corrupt and power hungry government officials. If you like an entertaining comedy and action movie with lots of great stars you should check out this Red #2 DVD. A fun to watch movie. Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Great film. One of the only sequels to exceed the original. Helen Mirren steals the show, deadpan and perfect comic timing. But the whole cast is excellent and play off each other so well. One of the best action comedies I know.
